There are some racists in Australia like anywhere else. Asking if an entire country is racist is a bit of a ridiculous question. I am in the United States. You could create equally large posts about racists in this country, but the people as a whole are not inherently against any ethnicity. I know I am not a racist. I know my friends are not racists. I know most of my family are not racist. I also know my grandparents are. It is an unfortunate condition that pops up anywhere.

I've worked for Australians and I haven't experienced any racist comments from them. Not face-to-face anyway, but the ones I've worked with dealt with utmost professionalism.
We can't brand them for being a racist nation as a whole.

actually from my own experience, Chinese are the most racist people I have ever met. Heck, when a baby is too dark, they throw it away.

You can't even spell "Aussie" yet you're saying we're racist?

Have you ever been to Australia, or are you making unfounded assumptions? How many Australians do you personally KNOW?

I'm Australian and I've only personally known TWO racists here, having met hundreds and hundreds of people - the two racists were just ignorant people; they were also homophobic.

didn't we have this sortta thread before and been locked away :p
anyhow, racists are almost in every part of the world, we call them by different names in different locations, even the extremists are racists,

I am not supporting aussies but its just that there has been racial attacks on non-white people in most of the white people nations, now we can't go on pin-pointing each one of them, its just they haven't either civilized or they are jealous of the other breed's success. Most of these cases don't rise up as they are scared of the outcome after the media burst / they just got used to it. For that sense we can note racial attacks in most of the countries say like US, UK, Canada, and so on.. it was just Australia was caught handicapped with too much of evidence in the recent times. Now, I am pretty pleased with their govt. actions, hope the people civilize good..

I have to say Australia govt. has put forward a decent effort in stopping racial attacks compared to a few months back.

You mean the hijacked thread? Yes - but plenty of people didn't get the chance to comment as they weren't aware that a thread about various schools was in fact a thread regarding racism :)

You say you aren't supporting Aussies, but you should probably know that we do not require your support :p Lol.

We have not been handicapped by too much "evidence" - we have been handicapped by our own media; for example they reported on the front page than two Indian students were killed - that was a headline. Once, later in the article, it was mentioned that the killer was their housemate - another Indian.

Same goes for the Indian who set himself on fire.

In fact the same hijacked thread between around 3 - 4 members if I remember it well :p

now, the quote mentioned as I don't support aussies doesn't mean the way u have taken it, I just wanted to state, I was not supporting racist attacks in Australia :p

now, the racist attacks need not be just killings or injuring others, even verbal spats are of course racial attacks and they are most common in many places not just in australia, the main reasons which I feel are : barbarism, under-civilization, jealousy

Indians in particular are not subjected to racist attacks only in Australia - we face racist probs even in the nations such as UK and US, its just the attacks were on a high, that each attack on an Indian was depicted as a racist attack, so Australia turned into a un-safe location for Indians in that particular period of time.

Its the same reason I mentioned, I applause the aus. govt. for putting forward a good team to stop higher range of attacks - at least which are injurious

I'm aware 3 or 4 members were in the hijacked thread, although not sure of why that matters at all, lol. Did you have a point?

As to the Aussie thing, if you meant you were not supporting racist attacks here you should probably say that you do not support Aussies, Indians and Lebs. (Lebs commit more race motivated attacks than anyone here and with the Indian killing other Indians and one lighting himself on fire - well, they must be racist as many are still using these attacks to say that Australia is racist.)

I agree that verbal attacks are also racism, although luckily for minorities here it is illegal to incite racial hatred - which includes verbal attacks based on race. It is interesting that you assume jealousy is a reason for racism - I disagree. I think ignorance and a belief of superiority is more common; I love my Indian friends but I've never met an Australian who was jealous he/she was not Indian!

The reason people claimed Australia unsafe was for 6 attacks here in a short period of time - only TWO of these were on Indians by Australians and in both cases did not appear to be racially motivated - the unsafe verdict was because of the other 4 attacks; an Indian who sexually assaulted a woman and got his ass kicked for it which I FULLY support, 2 Indians killed by another Indian and one Indian who lit himself on fire.

It was a MISTAKE to brand Australia racist because of this. Half the attacks on Indians in that short space on time in Australia were committed by other Indians. HALF. That, if your argument is to be believed, would mean that Indians are in fact racist against themselves. I don't believe that for a second!

The Australian government has NOT changed its policy on racially motivated attacks in some time, so I don't know what you are "applause" them for exactly. (Hint: It's "applaud" in past tense.)

Jealousy in the sense that Indians (or any other immigrant) are taking away their jobs and maybe own better cars and bigger houses than the jocks who never saw a college and now clean public toilets. Thats the main reason which fuels racism worldwide.

If everything you are saying about the attacks is right then I wonder why Shane Warne, Bret lee organised events for Indian students "to promote peace" and Kevin Rudd's nephew participated in anti-racism protests?

If you do some research you will actually find that supporting minorities and anti racism activities have been going on for decades in Australia. Even way back when I was in primary school, we had several whole days a year dedicated to it! This is not a recent thing :)

I think in some countries people might be upset about jobs going to immigrants rather than natives, however in Australia you wont find the "jock" you refer to cleaning a public toilet; people who finish high school can get mid level jobs here :)

Also, re housing and cars, having one or two Indians who drive decent cars and live in nice homes doesn't make normal people jealous - most of us here have those things, and those who don't are far more likely to feel ency than jealousy.

Indians killing another Indians can't be called an racist attack unless its proved (if he stays out side India only)
Jealousy is a true reason, it was of course disclosed by some psychs (docs), about there is a sense of fear for the lose of jobs and etc.. can be and has been a cause of concern for racist attacks. This doesn't need special research you can find these sortta articles at plenty in the net.

Well jealousy isn't a cause of concern for the well educated and good civilized humans, it falls only for the ill-minds and poor who blame others for their failures

thanks for ur hint :p I wasn't totally on this thread to check the tense I was posting the above msg, so I might have used present tense instead of past tense :p (gosh!!!)
Aus has not changed its policy but it got its rules and regulations more tightened and some swift actions against the culprits has reduced the higher no.of attacks

Your English can be very hard to understand.

I have no idea what you are trying to say here; I'm simply telling you that one attack that was initially reported to make Australia seem racist was, in fact, an Indian attacking Indians and NOT a reflection on Australia but on Indians. Do you understand what I'm saying to you there, in that statement?

I'm not saying that jealousy isn't an issue; I am saying that it is not the only issue. People who are racist have something wrong with them beyond just being jealous - it is like saying murder happens because of hate - it isn't just hate - I hate a lot of people, but I'm not a murderer - there is something in these people that is deformed, making them do/say/believe untrue and often horrible things.

As to the correction, some people who are trying to speak English prefer to be corrected so that they don't repeat the mistake - as you are still hard to understand often I would think you'd like to improve - it will help you get your point across better :p

Australia is no more or less tolerant of racism now than it has been in 30 plus years; it has always been acted on in the same way as today - and I think that is a good thing. We protect minorities while still not calling every single attack on a person from outside Australia "racist", because most of the time it's not.

I don't think it is entirely fare to call that commercial racist. There are certain cultural food preferences and that happens to be one of them. I'm originally from Russia, and if someone points out the fact that Russian people like borsch, potatoes, and vodka, I don't get offended because its true...

    gee !!!
thanks for your suggestion to improve my language, I think the only reason you might find me hard to understand as I am not totally into the topic (due to my time constraints), if I verify my msg I might have made it better (as this is an off-topic forum, normally don't check them up). Thanks btw! I will try to give it a thought in composing my next msg (english) :p

About, jealousy - your earlier mentioned u dis-agree to the clause of racial attacks could be motivated b'coz of jealousy, its the same reason I had to highlight, jealousy can be a reason and not entirely an reason, as reasons may vary from person to person due to their mentality.

I have been in Aus twice before and I have had some good experiences, its the same reason I mentioned all Aus weren't racists but there were a bunch who act like honchos. Not, really making a pt. but just wanted to state aus had their share of racism prevailing around and the recent measures were just additional protection as a shield for South-Asians in particular not just Indians. You are also an aussie and I don't presume you are an racist with your communication style (my little observation).

On an end note, I would like to state - its wrong to finger out a country to be a racist as this is a common prob in many nations, as far I am concerned the recent abolition of burkha in European nations is more in racism in nature (really not open for a discussion on this issue for now, on this topic at least).

That's good - I'm glad you get I'm not trying to offend you; it's just sometimes it can be difficult to understand you - English is supposedly the hardest language to learn, however.

Yes - I do disagree that jealousy is a cause. It can be a factor, but not a cause - the cause is an underlying character flaw of the attacker.

You are right about me; I'm not at all racist. Thanks.

I'm off to bed - although the Burka thing I actually support; to be against Islam is not RACISM - Muslims are not a race - so therefore it cannot be racism.

With the exception of our Broadband Network.... lol

    @bfebrian
Australia isn't racist, you can google racism on any country and you're going to get the news headlines... I was told that in the US there are a bunch of "red necks" who are racist against others. You have American politicians saying that American's are not ready for a black president... OF course it's ONLY the stuff that make the headlines that people see, the news is always biased and if you don't believe so... then you are in denial.

First I will tell a little about myself. I am a german, who lives in South Korea, married to a korean. I have been to many countries including New Zealand (1,5 years) and Australia (about 4 month).

    Now to the topic.

I can assure you Australia is not a country full of racists, neither is the Australian government. The point is you can't put a whole country into one box and mark it racist.

I do come from the east part of Germany, where racism and racist are almost everywhere to be found because they don't hide. The west part of Germany racists are most likely harder to find, because they try to blend in. This and the facts of what happened 70 years ago during WWII, doesnt make Germany a racsit country though or the people in it, but many people all over the world say so. The fact is that the german government and many people fight against racism as good as they can. Every time anything happens that involves a foreigner or a person of different ethnical heritage (did I say that right?) the whole world screams "Racism in Germany" with 70 years ago flash backs. It doesn't matter if it has proven to be a non racistic incident.

Germany is not a country of racists, neither is Australia, the USA, South Africa, Great Britain or Russia for that matter. Racism can be found everywhere in the world, but there are also always people who fight against it.

I live in an interracial marriage and have seen people treating me differently than my wife. I have never had any of this happen to me in Australia.

Racism is everywhere, but not all people are racist.

To be honest, Black People get the short end of the stick almost anywhere.

Also, for the poster above, I've never been to Germany but I've met plenty of Germans. They have been some of the nicest people I've ever met.
