"ASP is minor in my opinion. What are your thoughts about it."
I'm going to stick to the subject. I don't care about emacs and it's easy to use existing ASP.NET web services (have to downgrade WCF for ASMX) for android, iphone apps. With Flashbuilder it's a breeze and I'm about to release a new android app with a MS back end shortly. I could go on but will not.

The open source vs commercial, ASP vs PHP, MySQL vs MSSQL, Chevy vs Ford, MMA vs Boxing, Classic vs Jazz etc battle will forever rage on.

My platform of choice is ASP.NET and MS technologies and when the OP offered to add to the discussion I did. I've done that and have more important things to do than ping pong pluses and minuses.

    Take care

Can't really be bothered responding to the rest of the points cause the ones on both sides are as (in)valid as each other, but one show I saw (think it was CSI or NCIS) the guy was hacking into someone's emails and the code in the terminal was CSS.

    Hi,

The recent addition of ASP.NET MVC does a lot to address the needs of website development by providing an ASP.NET abstraction that's closer to the metal. However, Microsoft must also meet the needs of application developers if they want to sell more copies of Visual Studio, Windows Server, SQL Server, and grow the popularity of ASP.NET. As such, ASP.NET 4.0 delivers great improvements to Web Forms along with additional richness in the form of ASP.NET AJAX 4.0. Likewise, Microsoft also continues to aggressively pursue richer features and capabilities for Silverlight as well. So in my opinion asp have a great future.

    Thanks

Future or not, what it boils down for me is the money.
ASP.Net shops have always paid more the the PHP shops.

At the end of the day, I want as much as I can make from the technology that has the highest demand and $$$ - and for the last several years, that has been ASP.

Generally compiled languages are much faster than the interpreted ones. Nobody uses PHP when it comes to huge websites. The developers of such websites use ASP.NET, C/C++, Java, Python etc. (depending on the need). But for small and cheap websites PHP is the winner. Both languages will continue their lifes for long time.

hi,their is no doubt that ASP is having great future.Although not totally reliable still promising enough.Good technology to bulid a carrier as it will never be outdated.Upcoming of new and updating features makes it icing on the cake for developers.

And this guy thinks ASP will never be out dated yet ASP was replaced by ASP.NET just a few years ago and there is NO guarantee Microsoft won't replace that eventually, too.

Yes, ASP is part of the future! As well as PHP and other technologies. By using ASP (or ASP.net) you can do interesting applications easily, also using components (see Obout.com, who are great, or others).

And two more typical DP posters chiming in with comments that are false, lies, and stupid. They don't know anything they are talking about and should be banned. But DP thrives on people like them so I know that will never happen.
