Is Article marketing good for all kinds of sites?

I have seen, that whenever a new type of site or service is launched, people tend to get more traffic and backlinks, by writing articles about the site and submitting it to article directories, and I know this works. But what I am trying to ask, is that, whether this type of promotion works for content based sites or not.
I mean..what articles would you write and submit, if you were to promote a blog, or a article site, or a news site. Or would it be some content from the site, which you would submit...i really have no clue.

Please advice, and also tell me if something is not clear to you.
    Thanks

While I think article amrketing is beneficial to all sites, it far more so for siites that sell products or affiliate programs. A lot of these sites make the articles they distribute almost like a sales letter.

In any way an article distribution can help with the promotion of a web site.

I did that only once, and find out that even that the traffic wasn't really much, the quallity of it, was really high (better conversion ratios) and there are still some visitors to my site from this single article after 1 year.

The clue is to find a subject that is relative to your site, and write something really valuable about it. Then you can put a few links in your article, and of course a copyright statement that has a link to your homepage.

Article submission is definately far better than submitting in directories. They help a lot from SEO point of view as well as gaining certain amount of traffic to your website.

Regarding whether article marketing is good for all kind of sites, my answer is yes. But if you are using article marketing for deriving traffic than you need to identify where to submit articles based on theme of your website.

Actually, I'd disagree here. I only think articles are good if you give out unique articles (not hundreds of the same copy) to specific sites that you target and want. If you submit it to an article database, any site can often take it.

Whether it's a good site or a bad site. If links end up to your site in a bad neighborhood, you can sometimes even be penalized by Google. If duplicate content shows you, you can be penalized there as well.

One targeted site is worth 1000 times more than 10,000 backlinks from irrelevant or bad neighborhoods.

Exactly, this is what I am trying to know, when you have a specific product or service you cn easily market it by article submission, but what do you do if ..say you have a site about "cancer" with 100 cancer articles. Should I go submit all the articles from my site to other sites?? then in that case my site would not remain unique anymore.

I think that it is best to keep the content that you have on your website unique. I have been writing articles for directories, but I don't post those on my site. THat way, I have only unique content on my site.

That's exactly, what I thought. This is the way for content based sites.
