Is Anyone Making Money Selling Domains?

Hi, I am fairly new to the domain business and I had questions concerning where to place my domains for sale. I own over 60 and have 35 for sale at Afternic. I have what I would call good/decent domains. I've had page views but no offers. Is Afternic a good place or is there anything better?

I also see domain auctions on eBay. Has anyone made any money with ebay? Many auctions start at $.99. How can you make money with a starting bid of $.99? Any input is greatly appreciated.

You cannot make money with a starting bid of 0.99 but the bidding goes up if people like the domain and appraise it as a valuable one. However, the chances are low.

Moreover, ebay is the wrong place to sell domains :) Look for sites that are specialised in ONLY selling domains. You'd find plenty there.

Look at the sales in ebay
Do you see any real big offers ?
Consider ebay as an ad place (and most of the times overcrowded) not the place that will help you sell domains

I get the odd sale now and then, and only if I lower the price. You see, most people are not willing to pay more than $200 for any domain, due to:

    - Not having enough money
    - Plain old thriftiness
    - Crap domains being overpriced everywhere, which spoils the market for all. <You see a whole list of lousy domains, and you won't notice the odd good one...>

The question is, what is good/average/lousy? That's for you to decide.

I know 95% of domains on Sedo/Afternic/other domain marketplaces will NEVER get sold. But, it's still funny to see lousy domains being way too overpriced. These people are always kidding themselves.

Those you hear about -the "success stories," these are the 10%, and usually, the big dollar sales are the generic .com domains.

It is just hard to sell a domain without content! i sell on sedo an i make $10.000+ yearly, but there are 2 things you have to do first before list them for sell, build a nice content then send as much traffic as you can!

Listing your domains on Sedo is worth the effort, you can set the price as high as 10,000 if you like and you don't even have to park them there. I sold one a few weeks ago that I never expected to sell that quick.

hi,,,i am having domains and me too is doing domain business , what i recommend you is that try using sitepoint and also dp,,,,,what ever domains i had sold , they have been sold easily,,,so try it......

And more over also decide some decent prices for your domains which helps you in getting good offers and set up good bidding price for them, you will surely get through,,,;-)

Ive been listing my domains on TDNam but haven't made any sales there.
Have bought a few though for cheap.
It costs $5 a year to join, you can get a $1.99 domain with that.

Yes, I think your decision to put some content on them is a sound one.
Even if you only end up selling the domain, and nothing more,
your customer is likely to type in the domain name to see how it is being used. By having some relevant content, it gives them a visual
    (inspiration if you will).
A very simple site can go a long way in attracting offers and fetching a decent price.

Ebay is not bad IF you have a really good name, a bit of a selling history on eBay and you set a reserve price for your domain, while starting the auction low.
This will not always guarantee success, but I've seen domain names get bids in excess of $45,000.
If you have a minimum price in mind, NEVER put it on eBay without a reserve or if not a reserve, then start the bidding at your minimum.

Thanks again for all the new input. I think that just selling domains are the easiest thing to do. I've been trying not to build sites because I just don't have the time. I guess I can start with one at a time and try selling the domain after I add content.

I think forums such as DP are good for domain sales, ebay is way too over crowded, even if you have a good domain it will get missed out and people there are not prepared to pay much. However if you got good domain it will sell good on ebay, sedo or forums. But for average domains ebay is no place to sell.
