For the most part, season 7 of 24 has been a great season so far, even better than season 6 in many ways. In my opinion, the best episode of this season was episode 12, where the terrorists launched a surprise attack on the White House. However, episode 13, in my opinion, is a huge disappointment. First off, I didn't agree with the decision to kill off the Bill Buchanan character. It was unrealistic how he jumped up, ran into the panic room, managed to knock down the commando and take his gun just in time to shoot the flammable materials Jack set up(and by the way, why would flammable materials be in the panic room, where the president is supposed to be safe, and why were they conveniently available for Jack?). Anyway, this thread is dedicated to fans of 24, and below are the reasons I think episode 13 of the seventh season sucks: 1. In real life, Bill would have never made it into the panic room. As soon as he jumped up and started running one of the goons would have shot him in the back. It is unrealistic that he got into the room and easily disarmed a commando, no matter how well trained he is. 2. President Allison Taylor should have died. Juma went through all the trouble to invade the White House, and didn't even bother to kill Allison Taylor. He should have shot her in the head as soon as she got out of the panic room. As soon as Bill detonated the bomb, he should have killed her. If the president had been killed, this would have made this episode really powerful, and would shock audiences. Allison opened the door so her daughter would not die, so she should have been sacrificed. The decision on the part of the writers to let her live was incredibly stupid, considering all the odds against her. 3. Jack "conveniently" finds "just" the right materials in the panic room to make explosives. Why would the Secret Service and White House staff allow these types of materials in a room that is supposed to protect the president in an emergency? General Juma died a lame death. He was so bad ass and well coordinated in episode 12, and he gets wasted so quickly and easily in episode 13. Very disappointing, Bill was a great character I can't believed they killed him off instead of Allison Taylor. How episode 13 "Should" Have Played Out If I was the writer for 24, I would have started episode 13 with General Juma demanding that Allison give her final statement before the world. Allison, being the stubborn and strong willed woman she is, would refuse, saying that even if Juma took her life, he could never take away her dignity, or something along those lines. At this point, I would have Juma shoot her in the head right in front of everyone, including her daughter. I would make her final statement before her death really powerful. Once Juma kills Taylor, he realizes the game is up. The building is surrounded, and Federal agents will enter at any moment. So he gives the order to his men to begin killing all the hostages. At this point, the commandos move closer to the crowd to begin killing them. Jack and Bill, who realize they have nothing to lose, get up and rush the commandos as fast as they can. Jack quickly immobilizes a nearby guard, takes his pistol, and dives to the floor as he begins shooting the closest guards. Bill manages to grab a gun as well, but is hit by one of the men. The guards fire into the crowd, killing as many hostages as possible, but the gun fire alerts Larry Moss, who ignores the Vice President's command and launches an attack on the White House. Jack and Juma get in a gun fight where Juma is killed. The FBI kill the rest of Juma's men. Olivia manages to get in a place where she avoids being hit. This scenario is more realistic. Because the men move closer to the crowd to begin killing them, they are close enough where Jack and Bill can rush them. The chances of them disarming them is still not very high, but much more realistic than Bill running into the panic room. The assassination of Taylor would be high impact, very dramatic, and a extended gun fight with Jack and Juma would be really cool.
