Is an article and press release the same thing?

I am starting to really learn alot about how to SEO my site and one thing I really haven't done much of is submit articles. So just a few questions if you don't mind.

    1. Are articles and press releases the same thing

    2. How long should articles be and how often should you mention your keywords in those articles.

    3. Where do you submit your articles? Is there a reasonable service that does a mass blast or is it better to do it manually by yourself?

    4. Where are the sites to submit your articles?

thanks all, look forward to your answers.

Here are some answers to you questions:

    1) Articles are something you write yourself or someone else writes; press releases are usually statements or facts issued by company regarding their products and services or events...

    2) Quality over quantity for your articles - people generally are turned-off by long articles. You can mention keywords as much as you want so long as it doesn't disrupt the flow of your article or make it look awkward.

    3) There are many websites where you can submit your articles. You can also try social networking sites like technorati and Zimbio (among others); they allow you to ping your whole blog, allowing you to submit all your articles at once

    4) Here are few sites off the top of my head: Ezinearticles, GoArticles and Business Exchange (BusinessWeek).

You release press releases in the hope of getting media attention.

No they are very different. A press release is targeted at the press it should not contain superlatives (like "the best") . It should be factual and it typically announces a new product or service, conference, donation, appointment or something noteworthy or newsworthy.

Articles are much more flexible they can be opinions, how tos, educational or really anything.

well i'm still confused. I'm trying to think how i could press release my site. it's a lead generator and a resource page to learn about DUI [obviously by my name duh hehe] I don't know how i could "release" that.

No one ever mentioned yet a press release site.

Articles get better read through at about 350 to 500 words.
Too short and they may not contain enough information.
Too long and they have to be very interesting or the read will get bored and leave.

You should have the keyword about 1 time for each 100 words.

I think articles should be informative and interesting too or they are really boring!
