Hi guys. I was wondering, how many of you used AdWords here ? Is it good for a website promotion campaign ?

I do use it a lot, for many sites. What I say is that AdWords is best when we are talking of bringing traffic fast to a site. If you have someone who knows what he does, you can get very high conversion rates - depending on site - products, goals - from 0.80% to 16% or more.
For a new site I think it's a good way to make your site and products known.
I recommend it to be done few months in parallel with SEO which requires longer time to be effective.

My recent experience with advertising my site is that AdWords can have mixed results.

If you are advertising products, then I guess it is a matter of getting the right keywords and right landing page which will convert and deciding if you can live with the ROI. But you will always lose a portion of clicks to people who are just enquiring about a certain product, with no intention of buying it - just for information or something.

With services it's turned out more complicated for me: there are so many FREE services on the Internet that you have a huge number of people looking for my service but with no intention of paying for it! While I am looking for professional, corporate clients, not the general public.

I am not going for quantity, therefore, like I would with a product (with services, you can't even HANDLE a large volume), where there is a direct ROI, but ONLY for quality of traffic, for maybe the two or three new clients that I can build a long-term relationship with. For THAT kind of campaign I don't think AdWords is very effective, not in the Search network and especially not in the Content network.
