Is All The SEO We Learned Becoming Obsolete??

    After viewing this video:

Google SEO- Past, Present & Future

... it really made sense to me and how stuff that used to work well doesn't work anymore and how the stuff that works well with optimizing our sites may not work that well in the near future as Google changes.

I tend to agree with John in that Google is constantly changing so we can't expect the same things we've been using to work forever.

What do you think? Is all of the SEO we do now going to be worthless soon?

In the past rankings have been earned by links... today rankings are earned by links and feel confident that this will remain the same for a long time to come.

I would not say that all the previous methods are becoming obsolete. I would rather say that more and more new methods are coming to use. And, I feel that keyword analysis or link building would always be there… :)

I think in time most of today and yesterday's seo techniques will become obsolete. It will take a while though. One search engine may make drastic algorithm changes, but the others will still rely on their existing algoriths. If your seo skills are varied enough, you will have no problem adapting to new strategies. If you rely heavily on only one or two techniques, you may be in trouble down the road.

Look at social bookmarking. That got me on the first page for my targeted keyword within a week of Digging it. Things change everyday but that dosen't mean that links are going to become obsolete. They will be just as important but there will be a twist on things. Just keep up to date on trends. DP is one of the best places to do that anyways!

writing good quality content will never become obsolete, this is your best SEO tool that you can have, all the rest of the techniques will not become obsolete but will be reduced in importance when spammers abuse the techniques

What it will always come down to is good content and links from authority sources. That is what you really need to concentrate on. Many people overlook marketing for direct traffic such as branding in your domain both online and off. Most major websites get traffic by people directly typing in their url then any other form of traffic.

I don't know about that. I think it may be the other way around- most major websites get most of their traffic from search engines. If you follow the visitor from the time they land on your site from a search engine, you will find that the ones who eventually come to your site by direct link were first referred by a search engine.

Over time, yes, I feel things will change. But they'll be gradual, and we'll ease right into it.

SEO will not become obsolete. If it happens then all sites will have a same rank and that doesn't going to happen. Link support for a site will count at all time

I agree that link support for a site will count at all times. As the internet and websites change with time, so will SEO.

Some basic SEO techniques will always remain there IMO.

Like backlinks, keywords, keyword densities and etc.

Search engines might add other factors while adjusting the weightage of already existing factors.

Some factors might just be dropped from the ranking algo.

    just my view about seo.

always remember - Change is the only thing that is permanent. don't worry about the changes taking place in SEO field, instead, adapt yourself to those changes

I do not think that all the SEO is going to be worthless soon? Maybe in 20 years, but in the next years it will stay about the same. Mainly, having links and your page content.

There are things that are going to be less efficient. For example, many year ago, the FFA pages were really good to get your website well ranked. Search engines saw that trend that were not so natural and they adjusted they algorithm. Not a long time ago, the same thing happened with social media sites. The same kind of phenomenon.

I do not think that the basic principles are going to change soon.

As long as it remains "the internet" (a worldwide web of inter-connected links), things like links and the keywords in those links will remain important.

Keyword-rich links are a valuable aid to the search engines in determining the exact nature and content of the pages they index.
