Hi I really like the Alexa ranking and am very thankful that they offer the service. It diverts my competitors from more important work. Actually - it varies a good bit by industry and the space you are in. Alexa ranking by itself does not "do anything" for you - the way page rank & SERPS do. They are measuring two fundamentally different things. Alexa is simply a measure of your traffic - your visitor demographics, etc. Very similar to what sites like Quantcast do. It is useful for researching sites and seeing how well they are doing -- how "important" they are in terms of actual visitorship & traffic. Google page rank tells you nothing about traffic - or visitorship. It is a measure of how important or valuable a page is in the mind of Google. That does affect search results placement - so it can affect traffic - but there are plenty of high page rank low traffic sites - just as there are plenty of high traffic low page rank sites. Just two fundamentally different measures - one is not more or less important than the other.
its not really important , especially for those who dont have any webmaster type sites. It monitors the alexa toolbar and not everyone has it.
Really useful info about Alexa Ranking. I himself use Alexa ranking along with Google page rank to know the popularity of a website
Although Alexa is not that accurate and can be manipulated. Advertisers do use it to get an view of how popular your site is.
It depends...Some still consider place heavy importance on Alexa rank especially if you intend to sell your websites. However I agree with you on the part saying that the measurement is not that accurate and somehow does not provide a good representation of the actual traffic.
Yes if your a ads publisher you can get paid alittle more or it can increase the worth of your domain if your selling it. but most webmasters dont care for alexa as it can be faked using bots
