Websys is correct. The Alexa directory is a clone of the DMOZ directory (the same applies to Google). They update weekly as far as I can tell, so the only way to make it into there is to submit to the ODP, get accepted, then wait a week. You can however have an Alexa rating, and make it in with relevant links without an ODP link...but you'll not get in the directory part of their site without an ODP listing.
So then if a site hasn't been accepted into ODP you have no chance of getting listed in Alexa and Google directories. My site (http://www.pedalcarplus.com) has a higher Alexa traffic rank and more links than most competitors sites in Alexa directory. Another example of the ODp domino effect?
Why not complain to Alexa that they are using data from ODP and that they are stupid to do so because it does not (yet) include your site. Don't expect us to change because of the way downstreamers use our material, we really do not have any control over that, but one has to say that often we are expected to have control or change so that someon else can ensure that downstreamers do as they want them to do. Your complaint is with Alexa, please take it there and if they don't reply or don't come on to open forums like this one, well maybe you should be glad we do.
yes, complain to Alexa that their directory is not listing worthy sites and that they should start up their own directory. Though, erm, if their toolbar is any indication of how their directory would be, I'd expect pop under ads and Amazon affiliates to listed in every category... Anon is correct in that you not being listed in the Alexa directory IS with Alexa... though, your complaint of not being listed in DMOZ may just be a matter of waiting till you are listed (assuming that your site fits the guidelines... you already got a thread on that right?)
I feel it's more of an observation than a complaint. Maybe not all of us have been around as long or have the experience. Explain the rules so I know how to play the game. ODP is the way it is and I don't expect it to change. I go to a forum searching for information and answers. Sometimes when you hit a roadblock you search for anouther route.
Sorry. attick, perhaps I am over sensitive that people complain about Google's listings to ODP and about Alexa listings when we really do not have any control at all about how people use our data. We have dozens of sites who use the information without even giving us credit for it. We offer what we do to the internet community without cost or charge and what they do with it is up to them, we just hope that our work helps people navigate the internet and find unique content rich sites in a categorised form. But I understand, as others have said, that not being listed does not affect your rating, so go and promote your site any way you can, forget about getting into ODP and maybe one day you will think Christmas has come early. Good luck.
yeah, alexa directory is a copycat from dmoz. But like my site doesn't have in the dmoz but still listed in the alexa directory
