Is Alexa.Com hacked?

    Hi all,

    First off, I consider Alexa.com rank as one of the important factor in SEO. So, I am opening this post in SEO section of this forum. If it is not, requesting our esteemed moderators to move this thread to appropriate section.

    Few minutes back, I checked and Alexa was not loading and now I was shocked to see Lighttpd banner there and a link (Seem to be an affiliate one for me). Even if the website is down they would display any meaningful message.

    Few days back twitter, google china has got some hacking attempts and you know G.cn went out and twitter was down for some time. Is this the same case? Can any one comment?

    It isn't an important factor in SEO.
    No search engine pays any attention to it whatsoever.
    They use their own algorithms.
    Alexa ranking is easily manipulated and at best is a very crude third party guesstimate.

    First, how is Alexa Rank(ing) in any way related to seo? That makes no sense what so evet!

    To answer your question: No! There is a difference between hacking and blocking. They hacked a few Gmail accounts, which is (completely) unrelated to this.

    I think they might just added or update there site the reason why some people tends to not see it just like what happen to Google when they are doing some update. Alexa is working fine with me now but I dont think alexa has huge effects in SEO as for me they are not really reliable

    There are so many people who think Alexa is related to SEO. I wish they would but a slogan underneath their name on how insignificant they are.

    To me Alexa is a good SEO tool. You know when ur ranki up or down. It motivates you. I always check my competitor alexa chart. You can check their popular keywords, audience, location, and stuff.

    Ok yes, I'll give you that much. But Alexa won't make you money unless you're trying to sell a website and you want to prove that you're receiving traffic.

    It is one of those tools that is fun to check from time to time. That is if you have a high traffic website. If you don't get THAT much traffic..well then..you don't get to see those nice lines going up and down on that graph and that isn't much fun.
