Alcohol is pretty bad for you, I'm not sure though, I've never tried X, it seems like it would be fun, though. I Heard X stays in your system for a while though, and I'm pretty sure it's not the best hing for your brain.

I bet both alcohol and ecstasy are very bad. When it's about any kind of addiction the result it's always the same. I don't usually drink alcohol and I haven't take any type of dope...ever ...I'm very proud of me :D

Alternatively, why not just decriminalize most drugs (excluding drugs like heroin and cocaine) and let the users decide if they want to ingest the substance or not? I wonder what Obama will do with drug policy.

There is a much higher risk of getting some bad drugs as opposed to bad alcohol. ;) I'd stick with the alcohol, myself.

I think alcohol is more additcive than Ectasy.

Alcohol seems to be more socially acceptable (especially in the UK) but that doesn't mean it's less socially destructive or damaging to your body than Ectasy.

    You make a good point.

Alcohol is definitely more addictive. Ecstasy can be psychologically addictive, but you can be psychologically addicted to anything.

I don't think he can do much, really. Politicians have some sort of obligation to represent the voters, and he's not going to stick his neck out and do something that the American people would be almost universally opposed to, I think? And he would never get anything they thought too adventurous through Congress/Senate anyway?

In societies that purport to be democratic (though technically the US is a Republic, not a pure Democracy), legal changes like that are going to haunt politicians and maybe even be their downfall: it's just too dangerous because society is too ill-informed and prejudiced on such subjects. Pragmatism dictates that politicians can't always do what they think is "right".

The reality is that how/when laws are enforced is something that's far, far easier to change than the laws themselves. In the UK, for instance, where most judges, laywers, senior policemen, doctors and so on don't really think the laws on minor drugs like marijuana are "quite right" they can just choose more or less not to enforce them for "possession", as long as they take "dealing" seriously enough to avoid too much public outcry.

Alcohol, as people have mentioned, can be problematic both physically, mentally and socially. Being far more prevalent than ecstasy tends to make alcohol, to the title of the post, "worse" than ecstasy.

Ecstasy however can also have its own problems mainly physically, mentally and psychologically. Plus ecstasy is a street name for a drug that *may* contain traces of Methylene Dioxy Meth Amphetamine, therefore you may end up with a cocktail of other substances in your dose - what they are, you don't know, as the ecstasy is not regulated in the same way that the legal drug alcohol is.

"Everything in moderation" as Aristotle may have once said ;)

Isn't Obama all about freedom and doing what's right for the people? Legalizings drugs (not all drugs) seems pretty spot on with his agenda. Becoming a criminal for petty possession is not right.

Of course it's not. (The death penalty isn't either, but in some states no politician would dare abolish it.) But you can imagine what tiny proportion of the US people would be in favour of federal decriminalisation? It's simply too much to hope for from a President who has to try to achieve some national unity.
