Well it remains to be seen what will happen with chitika. Personally I haven't had any problems with audits since 90% of my traffic for my sites comes from countries which are accepted by chitika.

Its just out of beta. Problems were to be expected. Even if Chitika fails some other company will make an ad program like this work.

I found alot of useful information from buying content originally designed for adsense but actually compliments the content I'm looking for. I think as folk/sites get more traffic-competitive and dig up info that to them only has a $$ value, some websites will 'gain' by purchasing content that is relevant. Just because the label/original intent is to attract adsense clickers, doesn't mean that the knowledge/text is bad.
Repeat visitors come back to places where they 'want more' / 'want again'. If they want more, it's because you have the content (no matter the source so long as accreditions/author are properly applied) of what they find on your site that interests them at the time.
Good examples of 'want again' might be 'big as' Amazon or something as small as a local pizza take-away. If you made an adsense ready pizza store, many outlets would probably buy it, modify the menu and prices making it a perfectly reasonable representation of their business.

One thing you can do to help with the ad blindness issue is to change your ad placement and color scheme on a regular basis. Some people have randomizers set up to do this automatically.

Repeat visitors are huge important. How can they not be? Having repeat visitors means you have a readership base. That base is worth money. How much depends on the type of site, but you'll have to offer me a lot of money to give up the readership base of The TechZone.

I couldn't agree more with this statement, as I do believe in the same business model.
