Is AI Search the end of traditional SEO?

Hey everyone,
Lately I’ve been wondering… how are you preparing for the shift from Google SEO to AI Search?

When customers ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or others about a product/service, most businesses don’t show up at all. That feels like a huge pain point coming for anyone relying on SEO today.

We’ve been working on a solution for this: GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) a platform that helps your business stay visible in AI-driven answers. Basically:

“Be visible in the age of AI search.”

We’re still in early days, so I’d love to hear:
- What’s your biggest fear or frustration with SEO in the AI era?
- Do you think businesses will adapt fast enough?

If this resonates with you, we’re looking for early adopters & feedback. We set up a Discord community where we share progress, gather feedback, and involve members in shaping the product.

You can join: https://idou.ai/

I asked Grok, it said: blah, blah, blah SEO is still important, but... and I quote:

Google’s own AI integrations (e.g., Gemini) show it’s adapting SEO to hybrid models, blending traditional ranking with AI-generated summaries.

The solution (again according to Grok):

• Prioritize clear, intent-driven content.

• Use schema markup to help AI understand your site.

• Engage on platforms like X for real-time visibility.

• Build authority through expert content and credible backlinks.

I believe that third point is super important: Real time engagement, whether it's on social media or forums like this one.

No, AI search is not the end of traditional SEO, but rather a significant evolution. While some traditional SEO tactics may be less effective, AI-powered search emphasizes high-quality, authoritative, and user-centric content. SEO professionals will need to adapt by focusing on strategic thinking, editorial oversight, and creating deeply valuable content that can be cited by AI, rather than solely on keyword optimization.

I guess we should start thinking of our websites more like databases and google as a frontend to show the user what they need, hard to make money of this model though

AI search certainly doesn’t signal the demise of traditional SEO, but it marks the evolution of the field. Rather than relying solely on keyword tactics, success now hinges on producing high-quality, authoritative, and user-centric content that AI tools can recognize and cite. Integrating schema markup, engaging in real-time platforms, and adapting to new visibility models like GEO will be essential as we advance. Businesses that evolve quickly stand to stay relevant.

Haha, exactly! SEO isn’t what it used to be… AI is really changing everything. The idea with GEO sounds cool, I’d love to try it and see if it’s actually possible to survive among all these bots. Who else feels like the old SEO methods are just dying out?

I totally agree. AI is just changing the rules of the game, not killing SEO. Now it’s more important to create genuinely useful and authoritative content that AI algorithms can rely on. Love that you highlighted this!

The shift to AI search is real and visibility will be the biggest challenge. Most AI answers come from a few authoritative sources, so smaller businesses could be left out. Businesses that start using structured data, relevant content, and FAQs to get cited in AI responses will have an advantage. Adapting early is key and tools like GEO could be very useful.

AI search is very concerning, and I use AI for questions more than I use Google.
But Google still has that niche for businesses if you need a service or are looking for a product. AI doesnt quite get you there, it's more like for answering questions and doing calculations.

In my point, AI search is powerful but I won't never end the traditional SEO. I think it more like a upgrade for seo. If you want to succeed with GEO, you first need to master traditional SEO; only then will you have a better chance of achieving results in AI-powered search.

We must combine AI search and traditional SEO for marketing in the future. If anyone need help, feel free to communicate with us:https://www.cybrinal.com/

AI is transforming how we approach SEO, but I’ve noticed that combining AI insights with personal daily routines (like mindset or focus sessions) keeps creativity and strategy sharp. Anyone experimenting with combining AI tools and habit-based strategies?

I don't think AI search is the end of SEO. If anything, it just raises the bar for content quality and structure.
What I’ve noticed is that pages that clearly answer the main question, have good structure and real examples seem to hold up better, regardless of whether people find them through traditional search or AI summaries.
SEO probably isn’t disappearing, it’s just moving toward clearer and more useful content instead of pages built purely around keywords.

Hi folks, during past months my project idea evolved to a stats platform with recomendations: https://idou.ai
If you want to take a look and give me some feedback

From my perspective AEO/GEO is just a new subpart of SEO, for sure needs to be tracked but it's just a bunch of new rules we apply that will keep evolving and evolving as much as llms will evolve

It's even easier than ever I'd say because we can create content essentially immediately.

Just got to make sure your content isn't fluffy garbage that's like everyone else's.

What I like to do is draft some basic outlines manually and then get AI to expand points.

Ill then proofread and edit any hallucination garbage it added.

Everyone here keeps saying 'evolving not dying' but nobody's getting specific. Here's what I've seen on my own sites.

Google puts you on a list. AI either cites you or ignores you, no middle ground. Pages I have sitting at position 8-12 on Google get cited by ChatGPT and Perplexity regularly because they have real comparison tables with numbers, exact pricing, specific steps with named settings. Meanwhile my 'ultimate guide' style pages that rank higher on Google get skipped because there's nothing quotable in them. AI engines need a fact they can pull and attribute, not a 2000 word overview.

Check your server logs for GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot. If those bots are crawling your pages, you're already in the citation pipeline and you should care more about whether your content is citable than whether it's 'optimized.'

Interesting idea, but SEO doesn’t really feel like its ending, more like shifting into two layers. Google will still handle intent-based searches, while AI tools become the answer layer on top. The real challenge now is getting brands to be mentioned or cited inside those AI responses, not just ranked on a results page.

SEO has evolved into AEO , answer engine optimization and in order to stay relevant you do need to be featured in big AI LLMs.

---------------
This is a sharp observation - visibility inside AI-generated answers is quickly becoming as critical as ranking on page one ever was. We're already seeing clients ask "why doesn't our brand show up when someone asks ChatGPT for recommendations?" and most have zero strategy for it yet.

The biggest frustration I'd flag: traditional SEO signals (backlinks, keywords, meta tags) don't map cleanly to how LLMs synthesize and cite sources. Structured data, authoritative mentions, and consistent entity recognition across the web seem to matter more than classic on-page tactics.

On adaptation speed - honestly, most businesses will lag until they see competitors capturing that visibility first. Early movers here will have a real edge.
