I would just like to know if it's worth a try to set up an affiliate site... I can read in alot of ebooks how ppl are making thousands. But I remain skeptical to say the least... Are there any ppl here who have set up affiliate sites and could share the experiences with me ? I mean things like .. was it harder than expected...or dissapointing, or not... did it work out easier than expected ? Things like that .. Also, what about common pitfalls... Grts.. Gdev
I run an affiliate scheme, we are on about 20 to 30 sites (only being going a few months) and make one sale a week from it. average payout to the advertiser is between $5 and $10. I'd say it probably is worth it, but depends on what kind of affiliate site you go for. A shopping directory would be good if you add some good support content. There are affiliate schemes out there that allow you to promote individual products - effectitvely being able to publish entire product catalogues from e-retailers
To answer your questions- yes it has been worthwhile for me. Yes, it was harder than expected. My experience has been that you need to try a lot of different merchants and products before you find one that brings in money. Avoid the saturated markets (web hosting, finance, travel, casino etc) and go for a niche without too many competitor affiliate sites. Once you find a prgram that works for you, drop everything and push it to the max.
what the heck Matt: you've been making great money in the affiliate noob challenge??? how is that not worth it?
Well, to you both ... the reason I ask is because I am skeptical ... with all the talk wich is going on on the forum ... sometimes it's hard to make a judgement who's telling the truth... and by the way .. my question was made up out of multiple questions... like what are the common pitfalls... and so on ... Gdev
Of course it can be profitable. There are people making millions of dollars per month. You just have to work hard. Either have sites or do PPC stuff. Learn to design and code, or learn all the ends and outs of PPC marketing. Then you just have to have time to optimize your sites or fine tune your ads. Some people lie on this forum, but you can usually tell who is telling the truth. I would never lie (except when I said there is no money in this stuff... ). Read the affiliate noob thread from the first page on, and you will find some good ppc advice in there.
Of course it's worth it. If it wasn't, why would so many people be doing it? You need to make a decision rather you want to get into this Internet money making thing or just sit there all day making endless threads about whether this or that program is worth it. Either swim or get out of the water, man, you're wasting everyone's time.
You know jack ... I don't understand why I come across so many sarcastic replies from you across this forum. I'm quite sure that I'm not wasting anyone's time here, since you are free to reply or skip any thread posted here. And how would you know if I am sitting around all day ? I take that as an insult, because you don't know me. Do you ? Gdev
Here are the titles of threads you've started just in the Adsense forum alone: "I've been researching adsense possibilities now for a while and ..." "Is quality blogging a good idea with adsense ? " "How to evaluate if an adsense site will be worthwhile ? " "Adsense only sites ? Do they work ? " "How do I evaluate if a 'concept' will be worth the trouble with adsense ? " And those are just in the Adsense forum! Either start swimming or get outta the water, man. You're wasting everyone's time.
Well, who's the one here with spare time, sitting around searching for all my posts in order to build a ridiculous 'case'. Let me remind you again that you are not the one deciding who posts what and when. However you can decide not to reply. Now, I don't know you or how old you are jackburton. But you have no right to use insulting language against me. You are free to reply or NOT reply to any of my threads and it seems you choose to reply. So your motive for sarcasm is clear. I wouldn't know more of a waste of time. gdev
you're posting similar threads, gdev. that's the whole damn point. i bet it took him 5 minutes at most.
gdev With all due respect, all of the answer you need are already answered on DP somewhere. It is up to you to find the answers. If you don't want to or can't be bothered, you are barking up the wrong tree altogether.
You need to decide if its worth it or not. Try few diffrent ones, see how much money you can make from it. The money people make from affiliates vary from people to people. Some people make few $100 a month and they think its worth it, while other make few $1000 per-month.Making good money from affiliate is harder than you think. But give it a try. Good luck with it.
Gdev, I'm just getting started myself but it seems like the potential to make money, be your own boss, and be able to run your business at any time of the day or night, from any place in the world with a connection is the ultimate freedom. It's simply too much to turn away without giving it a shot. ESPECIALLY when you consider your only investment is time and the cost of a domain. I've been reading this forum and several others like it day and night for a few weeks before I sent an email to the main guy to ask. Here it is: I'm sure you get this type of question all the time, and I know your time is valuable. I have 15 plus years in IT and looking to make a change. I've taken some classes in HTML, and SEO, and was vbulletin forum admin for a while. Rather than buying some crap book on money making secrets, I've read most of this forum, along with the other sites that you've linked/recommended including all sites belonging to people on your Boston Pubcon schedule. My question is: If you were me what would you do to learn more about site design? a) Take a class b) Buy a book and self teach c) Look at other sites and learn d) All of the above If so... what school, training, book, language, or sites would you recommend? I noticed you listed your main skill as PHP on the DP forum, is this the main language you use for developement of sites? I realize this is a big endevour and hard work is to be expected. Any suggestions or opinions are most appreciatated. Thanks again for your time, JB. His Answer: You just have to do it. Pick a project and do it. Learn what you need to in order to get the job done. It will be frustrating at first but eventually it will pay off. That advice came from Shoemoney. I figure he ought to know. JB
