it all depends, if you have a site with alot of traffic, then adsense might do you well...otherwise not.

Its not a monopoly at all. They have lots of competition, but they have the best offer and system so they win.

Yep, their position is very strong because for their adventages over competitors. I think this would be nice to see some comparable options.

No, its not a monopoly, you just have to have good techniques, sometimes a little luck, filterring bad ads can make all the difference and a lot of traffic will also play a key role.

It is a monopoly however the government really can't step in. Ideally it would be good if there were other options, however it's not a big enough problem for the government to take any actions against it.

    Thanks,
    Kyle

Adsense is the Walmart of PPC. Everyone bitches about them, but they still shop there instead of going to Target or Kmart. Adsense is popular because they make it easy, have good payouts for publishers and give good cost-effective results for advertisers. That gives them good market share (over 50%) but doesn't make them a monopoly.

I will define monopoly as a company that does not have any major competition. They may have some minor companies trying to compete, but no major ones. I would say a monopoly is a company that gets 50% of the clients, customer, etc. And in the case of Adsense, the amount of publishers using them. The companies will usually become a monopoly by offering the best services. So a monopoly is not nessaserily a bad thing, ideally you would want to have more alternatives, but it's not a big problem.

    Thanks,
    Kyle

A monopoly (from the Greek language monos, one + polein, to sell) is defined as a persistent market situation where there is only one provider of a product or service, in other words a firm that has no competitors in its industry. Monopolies are characterized by a lack of economic competition for the good or service that they provide and a lack of viable substitute goods.

Microsoft windows is a monopoly. (How many normal people actually use macs or linux? Come on, be serious...)

Google.com might be considered a monopoly (Yahoo? Hah.)

Adsense? I don't think so. I think the main way is still going face to face with advertisers.

    Well yes they are, period.

The are a very dedicated co. and the content relevancy is the best! So both the advertisers and publishers gain. Also, it has the biggest publisher base and it thankfully pays (still waiting my first check). But, now more co. are coming, but then again either google will buy them or dash them :D

    Well, thatz just my opinion.

    Regards,
    ~KMKM

Debateable, I'd say adsense has pathetic payout in some cases, yet they've been around so long and their system is pretty simple.

I personally prefer adbrite (cpc) and canep media (cpm)

There are many many other contextual advertising systems out there, and some are better than adsense. Adsense is the most well known big name, however oxado gives me an better cpc than adsense does.
