Is Adsense forcing us to use Gmail now ?

When I log into my adsense account I am being presented with "Update your Adsense login to a Google Account" screen instead. The only choices I seem to have are to change to a Google account or to create a new one.

Their help page says I can keep the same email I use to log in... but that option was not available. SO... I decided to ask Google how I can keep the same email I have been using for years.

But you think they answered my question ? Nope... their response was that I could not change to that email because it was already in use with adwords. No shit... I have been using it and did not want to change it ;)

So I figured I would make my question easier for them to understand... and asked a yes or no type question this time. "Do I have to change my login?"

Guess what ? The reply I got back still did not answer my question. They just went on and on about how great their Google Account is.

So I guess we will be all forced to use Gmail now.

Don't expect a reasonable answer from Adsense support.

OOH! I had the exact same problem! I didn't have to use gmail, but I did have to add another email address to my adsense account. I was annoyed because I had already made my main email a master google account, but they wanted me to change it anyway.

    reasons:
    1. I check adsense stats from home and work, they seemed to think I had employees checking my stats.
    2. I had an email address for blogger that didn't have adsense control. Basically they wanted me to make that address also have adsense access.

So now I have 2 emails that can legitimately login to the same adsense account. bizarre.

I think they are trying to integrate not just Adsense but all their services under a uniform Gmail account.

I think it is... They are trying to force a product on me that I do not want to use.

I am gonna just keep hitting the "skip wizard" link for now.

Yep, I had the same problem. So i decided, Oh yeah? How bout I delete the gmail account and you have no choice but to use the original (non-gmail) Then when I make new gmail account I just don't connect them to that account.. Worked like a charm... I guess you just have to out smart the automated system they have in place.. or at least I did....

I like your thinking there John Q... you may have won that battle... but they will catch on sooner or later. They will see the same URLs showing up in your accounts (adsense & webmaster tools) and you will most likely see that update option again.

Maybe I delete my adwords account instead ? Wonder if that is possible and how they would like those apples.

I use yahoo mail for more than a year now, no issues.
but if I have to use Gmail, I will too. Email is less spam than Yahoo.
