Is Adsense ever going to get some serious competition?

I have noticed that all of the websites which were supposedly going to be a competition for Adsense have not worked out very well. The two that come to mind first are YPN and Widgetbucks.

First for YPN, when YPN first came out, I remember that a lot of people tried them out, many of them reported high cpc, but a low ctr, and irrelevant ads. Also they only accept U.S. publishers.

Now for widgetbucks, when it first came out, the same thing happened all these people switched from Adsense to them. And reported very high CPC, and a high CTR. But then all of a sudden we start getting "WIDGET BUCKS IS A SCAM" threads. They explained how Widget Bucks at first gave them a very high amount per click, with a high click through rate, and then all of a sudden started lowering the amount that they made. And not only did they lower the amount that they made, but they also took away some of the money that people supposedly had already earned.

    So my question is this:

Will Google ever get any type of serious competition? If so when, and by who?

    Thanks,
    Kyle

Honestly, no. Google is way too big and mighty for it to have any competition. If a small company comes close, you can be sure that Google will do everything it can to win back those lost publishers. I suppose YPN had the potential to but Yahoo! totally blew it IMO. 2 years and they STILL can't find a suitable method for proper targeting? Come on...

I can't see it coming. The companies that have the infrastructure to do it are Yahoo, MSN, and thats about it. MSN has adcenter, Yahoo- yahoo Publisher network and neither of them have been anywhere near successful. Unfortunately Google just has to much power.

Luckily when we make money so does Google, so I think we'll be ok.

Yahoo had years to work out their problems... WidgetBucks has but only a few weeks in this game.

Chances are you will see no real competition in the foreseeable future. They are both too smart and too powerful to be overrun. Yahoo and MSN are the only two I see any possibility of doing so. However, both of them do not follow through enough to outdo Google. They always end up being the chaser instead of the leader in the battle for Online supremacy.

I don't think so, Google got a system. It scans the words on the page and delivers Ads. other PPC engines can't do this. Afterall Google bought Applied Semantics for 102 Million $, which was the backbone of how it scans the pages

I like yahoo better for advertising, and google better for publishers :)

Seriously the only reason why yahoo is better for advertising, is that its more simple to use! I think they have came along way with keywords telling you the exact ammount its being searched per month unlike google adwords. And showing kick ass graphics, etc.

But google adsense is unmatched, Widgetbucks will be 2nd for publishers IMO if it pays!

And microsoft just plain SUCKS :)

I think google wins out because it serves ads on more websites. Therefore people looking to advertise something usually choose them, adding to their strength which attracts more publishers. its a never ending cycle.

i doubt it , google has most the publishers right now because google is the number one search engine. it's possible but those chances are very little.

I think if Microsoft and Yahoo merge themselves totally or at least at advertising point, then they could become a tuff competitor for google.

Let us all hope that adsense will get some kind of competition because if things go on like this the rate/click will just keep going down. Competition is absolutely necessary for this issue to be solved :(

If YPN ever comes out to the public, then maybe. Other than that, I highly doubt it.

MS and Yahoo are just as bad as each other. Full of useless ideas with no sense on how to actually make it happen.

Its going to be near impossible to beat Google, after all they are the best data mining company and hold the worlds largest network. 2 key factors on why they are kicking the markets butt.

If anyone is going to take Google out its either going to be by their own doing or by someone fresh on the scene.

Be honets, at this stage - the future of adsense depends very much of $ currency value. If situation will not change soon, many people will move to their local contextual advertisement services. It doesn't mean that Adsense will get any (so called) "global" competitors, but their market position will a bit decease. (unless they will make possible, to earn money in other currencies. (I mean that, there is a certain level, when it will be better for me to earn in my local money, and it is very close).

right now..... as soon as widget buks issues its first chek, i think there might b a lot of shifting off........

n reg the threads that says widgetbuks is scam... just a few hints tell me they r not,,.

    stuff like..

    - if they never intended to payout anyways, y da banning and warnings to ppl 4 click fraud
-y did they change the code to suit faster loading..
    -etc etc...

just let widgetbuks proof themselves.. . n mayb ppl will have a practical alternative to adsense.. ofcourse, google is way 2 powerful to let them be sizable competitors 2 them..

but yeah one thing.. widgetbuks has been extremely well marketed
