I have a new e-commerce site selling products ranging from $25 - $75. The prices I charge is not the cheapest, but it's below average prices. Currently only offering paypal as a payment option. So far I got about 25 visitors from PPC on google ads and not a single sale. I'm thinking most people want to pay with credit card, so that could be the reason? Is accepting credit card a absolute must for ecommerce site? What's your experience? thanks.
People can pay by card using Paypal. So you are accepting cards. Things take time, you got to wait 25PV is not realsiticly going to get you a sale.
What ways are you accepting payment now? Certainly accepting a method that allows instant processing (vs. wire/check/etc.) will speed up the buying process.
If you are selling a product then accepting credit cards is practically a must; especially if your competitors are accepting credit cards. When people decide to make a purchase they want to be able to make the purchase instantly. The more work they have to do and the longer it takes the lower your chances of conversion become. Accepting credit cards is a MUST, but not to worry PayPal takes care of that for a fee per transaction. People can pay with funds in their PayPal account or use their bank account or debit card when submitting payment. I don't know much about Authorize.n3t, i think they charge a monthly or yearly fee. So this option maybe when your hits reach more than 25 and your actually generating a good income. Then PayPal might be a little costly and you might consider using both anyways. Some people prefer to use paypal and some prefer not to or they just can not use for whatever reason. People like the opportunity to choose so give your clients that chance. Start with paypal and even google checkout and as you grow consider other alternatives to add. Just my 2 cents
Yeah, accepting credit cards is a must, and NO, paypal does not take care of that in all countries. Some of us still can't get PayPal in our country.
this is only way to do business, my company paid much money to get a credit card tool for our retail website, they customers can pay easy online. if you want to do success at business in internet, you must go to buy a credit card tool. they can help you to get customer money and transfer to your card. in hongkong,we use IPS credit card tool. but they just accept visa,JCB now, canot accept master card, will soon, maybe hope can help you
I have a e-commerce website in my home country for three years now - never used payment by credit card. For you I would say it is not a must, since you are just at the start of your business. I have 10 000 visitors per month and I talk to dozens of them every day - not a single one complain about not having available this method of payment. But I am using delivery companies so the product is delivered at their door - I don't know if this is the case for you. However, if I was to take my business and make it international - a method of payment via credit card would be a must and it does confer a little bit more credibility to that particular website.
so sorry for mistake. If someone do international business or want to big website sell online in their country. credit card tool just useful for customers to choose when they do not have paypal, do not have moneybookers or others payment, especially when those customers are freshman for online shopping....
