If a site is 1+ year old and has excellent internal links, then that site may get sitelinks. But considering sitelinks as a symbol of authority site is not correct. Sitelinks are not going to help a site to rank higher in search results. Sitelinks will display if google think they can help users to navigate through your site.

When people refer to an 'authority' website, the term is a subjective one. It means the site is trusted, and/or aged and / or respected.

In my opinion, i think getting a site links for any website (ONLY) with a competitive keyword mean you are an authority website...

But getting the same, by searching your company/domain name means nothing ;)

ok, so if I have sitelinks for "luxury hotels" it means we are at the very least pretty stongly number one for that?

thats what I think too, name obviously not worth much, as you'd expect to be the authority on your own name, unless its a popular one, but on buying keywords, it's a different matter.

It sounds like a lot of people on this forum do not understand sitelinks. It has nothing at all to do with authority. It simply means that Google thinks that someone has searched for your company name. You will never get sitelinks for a phrase that doesn't appear to be your company name. You may get a #1 ranking for a related term, but Google won't think that's your company name and you won't get sitelinks.

If your company name happens to be a competitive search term, you may need authority to secure that #1 ranking and get sitelinks. All sites that have sitelinks aren't necessarily authority sites though.

I wish people would read the damn thread and maybe click a few links before pronouncing their 3 word one liners and incorrect opinions at the end of it.

Authority sites are NOT ranked as number one because of a lot of links - inbound or out-bound.

There are hundreds of websites in the number one spot with less than 10 back links. Sure they have a unique product/service, but they are ranked number one in that field hence, a HUB authority site.

Authority sites can only be created by HUBS sites. A Hugh mix of relevant inbound links driller down to a small pinpointed subject.

Most websites get into the number one slot by pure volume of links inbound and outbound, relevant content and the drive to make sales.
