    Hi guys,

I'm thinking about making an mp3 search engine where users can search for music then It provides results with sites where they can play that music from.

    Is this site Legal?

    Please let me know.

    Many Thanks

Well, I think there would be no legal issues, since you are not hosting the content; your site is a search engine like Google. In fact, you can search for music in google and, does google gets sued for this?

    Anyway, I'm not a lawyer

An MP3 search engine is not illegal.

An MP3 search engine that provides results for people to download the music that is otherwise not free and is for sale from bit torrent and P2P links for free is illegal..it doesn't matter where the files are hosted you are still contributing to, participating in, and providing access to illegal activity.

Of course if you are in a country that doesn't respect copy write laws, then it doesn't matter

If you have an MP3 search engine that shows results where user can download the music from iTunes, Emusic, Rhapsody, and so on...there is nothing wrong with that.

If you live in the UK, you are really asking to be sued if you are talking about links to content that you would otherwise have to pay for. Look at the Pirate Bay lawsuit - and they didn't host any files. Hosting offshore means the host might not respond to a DMCA take down or copyright claim - it doesn't mean you won't be sued.
