Is a "megamall" a good idea?

I've never done any kind of internet marketing in my life except for selling a few links here at DP. I'm out of work at the moment with little prospect of finding work in the near future so I really want to try my hand at earning a living or at least some beer money online.

I have a website but it's non-commercial, not really any good for monetizing to that level. What i've been thinking about is starting a site that's a kind of mega mall. using various affiliate scripts to sell alsorts of goods. A kind of one stop shopping site.

Is this a workable idea or is it just better to pick one topic and stick to it?

I have very little money so am relying on using what little I make from link sales on my existing site to pay for scripts for my new venture. This means I'm going to have to be really careful what I choose for my first script(s) so as not to blow the few pennies I have.

What do you think of this idea or how would you advise i start?

    Many thanks in advance.

yea its not a bad idea but there are many directories where you can advertise to sell your products so there is a lot of competition out there. You need to offer some thing that will attract visitors. Plus the advertising costs a lot as well. Good Luck :p

It's an idea that can work, but it's an big idea. So better keep spending your time an very, very small niches for which you can rank fast. From what you can maybe expect like 1 or 2 sales a month, but therefore many of these small niches. It's much better for small budgets and after you're safe start bigger. Like your idea mentioned above.
