I know that a lot of people start directories for fun and to help out other webmasters with their backlinking but I am grown interest as to whether or not they are profitable. I mean, most visitors are going to be there to place their link and that's it, then they're out of there. So how do you keep your visitors on your page and entice them with offers and make some cash? What's the point in spending your time on a site if you can't make some money off it, you know what I mean?
I don't think they will make you millions, but if you want to make a few $100 then you will probably be successful!
If you can get a PR5 or higher on your directory, you will have very high potential for significant profit.
Hello, Yes directories would be benefit for SEO but i ll suggest you articles submission. because some directory needs some time to approval and articles quickly increase the traffic to your traffic.
it depends how much work put on the directory in. quite often it may take few years for the directory to establish.
At the begining you may not make much, but once your directory is established and gets a good PR you can expect decent profit....
Thanks for all the replies! What kinds of things would you use to make money with the directory? CPA ads, Adsense, etc. ?
I dont think its hugely profitable until you are prepared to put in a lot of long term effort. It takes time to build up rankings and submissions plus all of the hours approving submissions. Ranking seems to be the key thing here as I myself will consider paying for directory links on high PR directories for my own optimisation.
I don't so. You have to work hard and beat botw and other sites. You can easily make thousands of dollars.
I dont know anyone that has ever started a directory for fun, they're not fun, nope, its not done to help out other webmasters either, at least not in the way you might be thinking. You can make back your invested money ie: the domain registration, the monthly hosting and anything else, after that its pocket money, and by pocket money i dont mean you get to pocket loads of it, i mean its occasional paid submissions. Occasional paid submissions is the only way you should be making money from a directory, dont expect it from adsense, or affiliate ads or some scammy stuff. Be prepared to get less out of it than you actually put into it, and if you put nothing into it then forget out about it.
