Is a dedicated server the only way to go if I need a fast site?

I'm pretty much at the end of my rope dealing with slow shared servers - I know that I have little patience for a slow website, and I'm sure my visitors do too. I need lightning fast websites! So what are my options?

A dedicated server would be overkill for me at the moment, as I don't have the traffic on any of my sites yet to justify it yet. With that said, would VPS offer the speed and performance of a dedicated server?

A VPS is basically a dedicated server, but you share the entire server with a few others. Can range from 3-20 depending on the hardware and how the host sells their products.

A VPS also gives you full root access which is the same as a dedicated server, along with options to reboot, boot, and shut down your servers - also like a dedicated server. And you also get a lot of dedicated resources, but generally the CPU is shared.

A VPS may be good for you, what kind of budget are you currently working with? If you don't get much traffic, you could aim for a server with 256-512mb ram which shouldn't kill your wallet. And if you fin da host that works with your space and bandwidth requirements, you'll probably save a bit more there as well.

Thanks guys - a VPS is probably what I'm going to try. Fingers crossed that I can get the kind of site performance and speed I am looking for.

It all depends on your budget, but a VPS should be able to get the job done. If you don't have enough resources you can always upgrade to a higher package.

If you are on a shared host, then take a serious look at a virtual private server.

Depending on how big your site is, a VPS might be the best option.

VPS is the same as dedicated. And as rule have smaller size. So if you do not need more do not go for more.
As for the speed: it is slow for the processing data or bad connection speed?
