    I'm thinking of purchasing a site that has 49k indexed pages, pr4, and has a crazy alexa rating of 127,000. How many visits a day would you guess that the site gets and is Alexa accurate for judging traffic.

    let me know your thoughts,

    my ranking is ~140k with 7000 / day if that helps.

    I was at 80k on alexa a while ago which was about 10k visitors / day.

    although the rating is high, cud it ever be just a false measurement? It also looks like one of the those adsense content template sites,

    Alexa rank means nothing distinction. It can be manipulated. Install the browser, set your home page to Alexa, and just use your computer regularly. Your rank will go under 100k...Click on the home button all day and it will get considerably lower.

    Its useless---probally good for the top 100 or 1000 sites though.

    I've got a directory/article site with 87k on Alexa.It only gets about 100 uniques/day but because the people visiting have (prob) got toolbar installed (webmasters) it rates 87k.So traffic and Alexa rank have very little in common IMO.

    I would rate by how active the users are more than by what traffic rank or how many visitors it has.

    A site can that gets visitors right from alexa will rank higher. Also a site uses a banner ad that is hosted on its own server when Alexa hits the banner advertisement it makes your alexa rank go up.

    It's a bit annoying that everyone says X variable is worthless and means nothing. Everything means SOMETHING. Alexa can be faked but if you do your homework you can see it's value. Most sites in top 10k are amazing sites. A 123k ranking in Alexa if true could mean you get 1000+ unqiues per day which is good. However things like backlinks, saturation, PR, and serps add to the equation of site value.

    Alexa is not dependable. My dolphin site in sig has a rank of about 185,000, and I get 150-200 uniques per day to it

    My opinion is Alexa ranking means very little. I have a new site that wasn't getting any traffic yet but I was reviewing it with changes I was making and of course I have an Alexa toolbar and my Alexa ranking has gotten all the way down to 200k, with no traffic but myself.

    ROAR is exactly right. I wouldn't buy a website that's based off of an Alexa rating. Use PR instead.

    Alexa rank is very unreliable as others have said. If you're in the market for this site, I would ask the seller for their web stats, especially the site's unique visitors per day/month.
