I just aquired this site hostscorpion.com
the previous owner was charging $50 monthly for a banner on all pages. The site is getting 12,000 u/v 's monthly and is pr3. How much should I charge?

It all depends on the click quality, you could have a site with 500k+ UV a day but shitty click quality with maybe one or two clicks a day, which may seem unrealistic it really isn't

try putting up some filler ads, see how many clicks you get, price it by the click

that might be just a little to expensive. But if you are able to find someone to do that then go for it.

I think you should set it higher as if you put it too low, people will think that your site is very popular and hence increases your brand. Just like TechCrunch.com, Michael Arrington sets its ad prices at $12,000 per month (with a minimum of 2 months) for a 125X125 sidebar ad.

I also say as much as you can get. Just work your way down inch by inch if needed.

I would look at charging PPC. I think you will find it easier to find merchants with this, and I think in the long run you should earn more. For example, I am a merchant, and I am willing to pay 10c per click let's say. Now you test, and tell me that you get 1 click for every 200 UV for example. Now even though I am happy to pay 10c per click, I am not going to pay 10c per 200 UV, because of the unknown factor.

I hope that made sense. Long story short, you can change more if you charge PPC. There are some good networks you can join also where you charge PPA or pay per action. This means you only get paid if the user clicks, then goes on to do something on the other end (usually fill out a form, or give their email). For the same reason, you should (in theory) get paid more still from this.

Then of course you can think about getting paid per sale.

$50 is good rate for this site, you can fix the banner rate for different pages separately

I think that the previous owner is charging too high. You may set it up for only $25 to $35.

If you can get $50.00 for it then take it. While you are collecting that money, you can solicite some other companies and see if you can get more from them. You never know, you might be able to get it. If not at least your still getting the $50.00

I don't think it's too low at the moment, until you have built a solid reputation. The quality of UV and clicks matters so take it.

How much would you charge for a text link ad? Are banner and text link ads equal? I heard banner ads annoyed visitors. I would probably use text link ads on my site because banners are annoying plus there isn't any room for them. What do you guys think?
