I noticed when I had less big ads on one of my pages, I was getting an average of 50 cents per click...wasn't getting too many clicks, but the ones I did get were worth 50 cents. Now that I added a third ad to my page my amount per click has dropped to 33 cents. Just wondering if it would be more beneficial for me to have more ads on the page with getting an average of 33 cents per click, or have less ads but get 50 cents per click on average? Has anyone else noticed anything similar to this?
I would consider it a good enough rate, depending on your topic though. Google will always serve the most expensive ads first then serve the next lower and so on. The more ads you serve on your pages is giving the visitor more chance of clicking on one of the lower paying ads. If you have three ad blocks and youru getting a lot of 1-10 cent clicks then try removing one ad block, you should see a rise and even test by removing two.
50cents CPC is good. However, high paying ads does not mean top spot. Google will also serve low paying ads in the top spots which could yield the most clicks. I used to place 1 skyscrapper and 2 banners and the CPC is between 5cents to $2 at an average of 40cents. But now i'm only using a banner and a half banner. The CTR increased but the CPC dropped to 20cents average. Hardly seen any clicks which is more than a dollar.
When a site is new, it is often the case taht it gets high value clicks initailaly and then some smartpricing factors into things.
Strange! But When I had less content in my site, used to get 3$ for 7-8 clix but now barely make a $ for those many clix
Thanks everyone for your input, I am going to see how things continue to go. It does seem though, that when you have less ads on your page, that the value of the ads showing is higher. Does seem to be some sort of trend there.
50 cents is very good. I have experienced the same drop in average revenue when multiple ads are shown, and have cut back to a single ad unit on pages where the ads are very relevant. However, when the ads are not all perfectly relevant in each ad unit, using more than one unit increases the chances of getting relevant ads that will be of interest to visitors. Yes, the average revenue-per-click goes down, but total revenue goes up because you get more clicks.
I sometimes get 50 cent clicks on my Corrs site and its forum (when I happen to get a click in the forum haha). It's a rarity nowadays though, stuggling around 5 cents usually. My myspace site probably average 2 cents a click
