    Which links do you hold most valuable;
    a) Links from a high PR6+ not related website, possibley full of spammy links
    vs
    b) Low PR0 links from related website with quality content.

I know it is good to vary, but if you had to choose one - which one?

The PR0 related links would be my choice, especially if that links comes within the content itself.

Thats the view I used to hold, but after gaining a few few high PR irrelevant links my site jumped 3 pages! Coincidence??

Any, I would love to know everyone elses experiences/thoughts on this one.

I would also go with the PR0 related website. From everything I have researched and read on SEO, Matt Cutts blog etc. Google's algorithm factors this in heavily, more than other elements.

As far as your site jumping, are the high PR unrealted links the only that you have built? Your jump may have been from other links you built that are just being indexed. It is hard to attribute a jump to only a few links if you have built or have hundreds or thousands of backlinks.

The ultimate would be a high PR related blog page with permanent, do follow and low outgoing links. ;)

The links were on unrelated pages and no other link building had taken place for the purpose of this experiment.

I think there are a lot of other factors that could be at play like the competiveness of the term you are targeting. If it has low competition, I guess I could see a few unrealted links making the difference, but definitely not for a term that has competition. I don't think a few unrelated links would get you anywhere for a nationally competitive term, and if that's all you build is links on spammed out unrelated sites, it will hurt you in the long run in my opinion.

I really want to agree because spamming only causes damage to many webmasters, but the evidence shows the opposite.

I think an experiment is to be called upon.....

Going off on a bit of a tangent not, but what would be a good average competitive term to experiement with?

I don't want links from anything that could be considered spammy sites.

That being said, relevancy does not exist. A link from CNN is better for me than a generic wine website for example :)

That's why those profile link packets work so well.

I have had this happen to me not that long ago. I build 3 PR6+ links and it really helped. Not all links need to be relevant IMO.

All links are important. I think we should mix up with different pr links and do follow or no follow links.

I shall prefer the indexing and the back links of that site where I am getting links

not consider the pr and relevancy in this case :)
