Irrelevant Backlinks

Could irrelevant backlinks be dangerous to the SEO of my website?

 

Irrelevant backlinks in the sense are arriving from crap sites like porn or warez then Google penalises the site which is being referred.

You need to be careful even when you submit your website to directory submissions as most of the submissions happen automatically, the sites are submitted to link farms which are actually blacklisted by Google.

 

If your backlinks from high quality and authority irrelevant site. That won't be a problem.

 

Irrelevant backlinks will make SEs confused. Sometimes you will lose your current ranking in SEs. SO, I always recommend useful and relevant backlinks.

 

I have just finished submitting all of your websites in your signatures to porn and hacker sites just to see what happens. I'm just kidding, but imagine if you could wreck your competitions SERP or PR by doing that? Those garbage links are ignored and the good ones are rewarded.

 

Better to submit your site relevant site. It's a major factor to get ranking to your website. Quality back links create quality traffic to your website.

Yep I totally agree with you. Only relavant backlinks can help.. It's better to have no links than having Irrelavent backlinks..

 

Because you've no control on incoming links I don't think such links will be harmful however Google may give less value to those links, btw don't try to get irrelevant links knowingly.

 

Having irrelevant backlinks to your site is okay, but just not a huge percentage of all your backlinks.

To avoid these issues it is better to concentrate on getting one way backlinks....any other way is risky...you can not guarantee that a website won't get banned or blacklisted in the future...but you you can not control who links to you, so you won't be penalized with one way backlinks

 

That was a threat, to your site. Better not to have backlinks if its come from irrelevant sites.

Irrelevant backlinks cannot possibly be penalized by a search engine. If it were so, then all you have to do is to buy some links for your competitor from link farm and spam and warez sites. At the best, these extraneous links should be ignored. But I dont think that is happening. This is not utopia. You can read what Google has the authoritative word to say about it here:

No, not at all.But it does not taken into account for link popularity.

 

I don't google gonna penalize your site for other site initially link to your site. But, I am not sure if they can be called bad neighbors.

Generally I think it is okay to get irrelevant backlinks. Actually it is not bad to have backlinks coming from various resources.

Anybody here who can help to answer the bad neighbors question?

It is rumored that they give penalty to those having irrelevant backlinks. Don't know if it's true or not. Any comments?
