The US and coalition forces are winning in Iraq. Iraq will launch an offensibe in Amara is stronghold of Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.

Iraq Army Major-General Tareq Abdel Wahab, leading the government forces, said that he has a list of hundreds of "outlaws, criminal gangs and those who violate security" that Iraqi forces would hunt down.

Winning against whom? Al-Sadr is Iraqi. He's anti-Iran. His group is actually a major political party.

So by attacking him, that's a victory?

Al Sadr's 'Mehdi Army' militia along with Al Qaeda are the primary agents of violence in Iraq.

They are the primary agents of anti-Iranian violence. Al-Maliki is an Iranian stooge.

This is strictly political violence, Al Sadr is incredibly popular with the Shia in Iraq, and Al-Maliki and the coalition are concerned that if they don't destry him before the elections, he might win, and throw the Americans out.

    Ain't democracy grand?

Saddam is gone, the only reason for violence in Iraq now is because of the USA occupation.

Precisely. Al Sadr is actually opposed to Saddam's political allies in the Ba'ath Party. He's opposed to the ruling Da'wa party that is affiliated with international terrorism and Iran, and yet people keep calling him the bad guy when he's an Iraqi folk hero and one of it's 3 most powerful grassroots leaders.

This is strictly politics. Al-Maliki will allow American forces to stay, and the oil companies to rape the country. Al Sadr will throw out the Iranians and Americans, nationalize the oil and make Iraq sovereign again.

Yeah, true Guerilla. Which is why I think the USA are trying to paint him as an enemy, Al Sadr is someone that they don't have control of and he won't be a puppet for them, while the others are.
