Don't be silly ferret. They hate us because we're not Muslims. Their religion is very clear: anyone who does not convert or submit must be killed. This isn't new. This predates the existence of the United States. The only things which are new are related to technological advancement: Communications and travel technologies make the world "seem" smaller. The put our two cultures into constant contact with each other on a regular basis. Military technologies make it possible for a small group of people to cause an enormous amount of damage in attacks which are effectively unpreventable. The first of these makes it impossible for the Muslims to live with us, the second makes it impossible for us to live with them. It is a seriously undesirable situation, but it's the mess we're in.

Iran is teh classic example of how we screwed so much with their country in the 1950's with our secret covert operations that the country turned a blind eye when the islamic revolution took place.
