I am looking for some advice on purchasing an MP3 player for my 15yr old. He likes the Ipod but i don't know anything about them. What makes them better or worse than other players? Is just the name?

I can't comment on the other ones, but I love my Ipod. It's got tons of features, games, playlists, huge space, easy application to upload music to it, and a music shop integrated into that application, etc...i think it was well worth it

I use a gogear from philips. Why would I pay much more when there are cheaper mp3 players around?? I really think people you wanna Ipod because of the name.

iPods are really simple to use, have the "nice" factor, and are pretty good as far as features go. iTunes is also pretty nice to use too (although it's a memory hog). You can't really go wrong with an iPod. But...

If your kid is a techy, then it might be worth looking iRivers. They're not as 'simple' to use, but they also have plenty of extra features like a radio, voice recording etc...
