BMW is the first car company to completely support the iPod. Just hook up the adapter and you can control the iPod though your car stero and hear it though the speakers!! iPod Your BMW Watch the TV Ad Now only if i had a BMW
Was just checking that out actually. Now if they come out with one for a car I *want* it would be a good enough excuse for me to buy a new car.
Shawn, Does that mean your are like Tiger Woods and only drive American made (Buick?)? Just wondering...
No, just don't like BMWs personally... Actually, I've never owned an American car in my life. Although my next one probably will be an American car.
I looked into this a while ago - I'm a big MP3 fan - even have a networked PC-come-MP3-player in the garage. There are 2 adaptors you can buy to enable the ipod for any car - the first is a tape casette adaptor (does anyone have a casette tape shaped slot anymore?) The seconf is an FM radio transmittor - although I think that might be illegal in the UK. Details for both on the ipod site. Until they make things a bit easier I'm sticking with my 8 track player. Hopefully big Gb hard drive based MP3 players for cars will come down in price soon, and they'll figure out a good way of updating them from a PC.
Problem with the tape and FM transmitter solutions is that the sound quality isn't that great, and you still have to control the music from the iPod itself. The BMW solution is a direct (digital) link for the audio and lets you control it from your normal audio controls in your car (from the deck or steering wheel).
That is pretty nice. My buddy has the RF adapter for his iPod. I have never been one for RF setups, but if I bought a new BMW I would seriously be tempted to buy an iPod.
Sound quality is not a problem for me: http://www.vord.net/cars/carhome.html Controlling anything in addition to the car however would be a big issue. Oh, and VORD doesn't do BMWs either - VORD looked underneath one and found why a development based approach to engineering is not such a good idea.
Tee Hee - I've nearly finished the exhaust system now. Pipes are on the large side. Sadly the valve cover lettering was manipulated in Paint Shop Pro. Must get around to having some machined.
I use iTrip which works GREAT in my Focus, but I still have to grab the iPod to change songs. It'll do till I win the lottery.
Man I just did a search for BMW in this category...I love them they are the best drivers car ever! I have been in the car export business from Japan for 7 years now, owned about 19 cars during that time, but the M3 is by far and away the sickest drive for under $100k sorry to drag up such an old thread I was just reading through and felt compelled to respond to this! I mean say what you will about american muscle cars, they go hard off the line, but they just dont perform the way a BMW does. I currently drive an 2003 M3 with a super charger fitted, with my Ipod cranking and the laxed Japanese speed laws it is a great high! I am going to seriously miss my baby when I move back to speed nazi- ville australia at the end of the year!!! Sorry again it just had to be said, I am a BMW addict babeh!
that's cool..having an ipod and bmw is awesome..i think eventhough you dont have bmw you can still hook up your ipod as long your stereo is capable
Lol... I 1st thought this a new thing until I realize the date were back in 2004. Please don't bump an old thread. There is a lot of new thing happening every day.
