Is it just me, or is the iPhone just an attempt to create a PADD from Star Trek TNG? I mean think about it...

TOS gave us the mobile phone
TNG is about to give us the iPhone and every copycat device that will follow

So following that trend, what can we expect from the future? Maybe flatscreen TVs with a digital camera in for face to face real time video calls? Or the expansion of holographic projection technology into the consumer electronics arena, so your Second Life is on a small scale, basic holodec, projected from your computer?

Where do you think we'll be in five/ten/twenty years, and what else from Star Trek will have become normal to us?

I'm really the kind of guy who is interested in technology. I think that many years from now it's going to be very suprising. What I really hope for is that they find a way to defeat death. :D

Well, they reckon they're only about 15/20 years from reversing aging on the cellular level, so you're not far off...

Only question is, is that a good idea? Would you really want to live in this world forever? And if so or not, why?
