Whats the best way to do this?
I seen a couple of ways where you can whack a load of IPs in the database and then rip em back out again.

But what other methods are there?

Shawn, I see you have this on your ebay page. How did you do this?

I use their data too and have done for years. Huge amount of data but it all sits in MySQL and chugs away nicely.

Does not slow your website - because the data is calculated and pulled from the database. It does not go out of your site and do a whois if that is what your thinking.
    So it's very fast.

Google react ? Please expand your question ?
Google looks at it as it does any other webpage

Google is American so it will see the "american" content on your page.

I use it to populate a drop down on the order page ie when I ask for country I've already made a best guess, the info is available and it **** me off when webmasters don't even try to help me sign up for their product/service quickly.

I also use it display a banner so that people from a particular country are pointed back to the supplier of a product we sell and we get to keep the rest. Google isn't from that country so it doesn't see the banner or extra menu items.

So, look at whether you are using the ip detection to cloak your content or add value to it. Google doesn't like cloaking where it can be detected but (I think) it relies on manual reporting and manual verification of cloaking before penalising. Manual verification would, I hope, include checking to see if the ip detection was used to trick people or add value.

Another one of them you may want to take a look at is: xxx.ip2location.com I've used their databases for ever now especially the country one i dont see too too much of a need for other ones.

The other ones are actually prety expensive too.
