Lets say I have two domains on the same hosting account (same ip address), will I benefit from linking them to one another?
Egads... Not this question again. Google does not care at all what sites or how many are on a single IP and or a specific netblock for that matter. To do so would be suicide for any SE. ARIN encourages, and in most cases demands that IPS's us name based virtual hosting vs. IP based in order to conserve IP space. That said, when you find a great many DP member as a for instance seem to use quite a few of the same hosting companies, it would be near impossible for Google to distinguish one from the other without arbitrarily lobbing them all together. So if someone is going to worry about having more than one site on the same IP, you should worry about hosting with the same host that other DP members use. IMO, there is no penalty at all for hosting more than one site on the same IP. None! Nada, PERIOD! End of discussion!
Very straight and to the point. There's tons of other things one should be worried about when launching / running a website. IP's are just IP's afterall. Concentrate on promotion..
Nice post. We're running network of site in one host (ip) and our rankings from SERP are constantly increasing. It's almost 4 years now since we launched this network of sites. Concentrate on other things like SEO/promotion.
One thing to note here is Google also considers the owner of the domain names. So, if both domains are in the same person's name, then linking within a limit will be fine but lets not make a link network between the sites.
Reciprocal link are not good anyway. You will not be penalized in any other way. But it's better in my opinion to get linked that sites because of visitors and other search engines.
Does not make much sense, since most webmasters buy shared hosting a/c. It might be penalised but I doubt it counts for much.
ok great thanks for advice guys. I own a Deluxe Plan hosting account on GoDaddy which allows you to host more than 1 domain and I was going to buy an Economy Plan hosting account just for the separate domain but I guess I'll save the money.
Another load of BUNK IMO. I am listed on around 13,000 + domains as the technical contact alone for customer domains hosted on our network, and probably another 10k more for domains not even hosted on our network. Of course the owner/billing/admin contacts are generally different. Of the more than 20K domains I am likely listed as technical contact, I have NOTHING to do with. Instead of worrying about what underhanded goofy methods everyong seems to think google uses to circumvent your ingenious SEO magic, why not just concentrate on doing your SEO magic instead. This debate is ridiculous.
I do it and suffer no discernible ill effects. I have three sites linked, all with similar content, all hosted on the same box. They are all PR3 sites. I have three other sites of similar content also all linked together all sitting on different class C address spaces - they are also all PR3. All six sites are about the same age and have undergone the same SEO process. I've yet to see evidence from reputable sources indicating that it can be detrimental as long as the linking is not excessive. Just my ha'penny (that's a little less than 2 cents these days.) Cheers,
