This is more like a hype, it was just a way for some to make money selling dedicated ip. Dont worry about ip address and their effects on SEO.

Having a dedicated IP address for a website is not most important factor of SEO, however I do believe it can serve a useful purpose. I have many websites on the same server. I always use a dedicated IP address for my most important websites.

If I plan on trading links of websites on the same server, I will use a dedicated IP address to help with SEO.

I would like to note: If a website is not optimized properly for important factors of internal SEO, then having a dedicated IP address will not be much of a benefit for SEO.

The main thing you have to watch out for is a single source providing links in bulk. Google likes to see your backlinks coming from a diverse range of sources. They use several different ways to identify when your links are coming from the same sources, including links from the same IP.

There are some people that offer to provide 'submission to 1000 directories' or links across '1000s of blogs' when really they are all owned by the same person or company, and were created just for such sales.

I don't recommend purchasing massive quantities of links from anyone, no matter how many IPs they are spread across.
