IP Address and Locations

Hi there,

I need help/advice or some information:
If using yahoo messenger:
Is it possible to trace the location/country where the other person is located? If it is possible, how? I don't want to hack or anything, I just want to make sure the person is who he/she says he/she is. I hope I am making sense. Any help is very much appreciated.

Sure you can if you have their ip and they are not using proxy. Just type
location ip in google. There are many places to check it from.

 

As far as i know its not a direct connection. I think Yahoo is like MSN messenger where all the data goes through MSN server.

 

That's the other thing, don't know what the IP is and how to get it..!

 

There must be a way...! If you dont know the stranger on the other side, he/she could be telling you a lot of crap...hmmmm! Any other ideas/offers/info plz?

 

Ok, there are few ways of communicating through yahoo mess.
1: using web messenger: You can't trace it.
2: using yahoo mess: there's 2 options
- direct connection: streaming, web, or simple chat.
- yahoo mess using their dedicated "proxyes": you can't backtracke
Now, how you can see the other person ip:
a)use netstat in windows. that will show your connections. You have a great chance to find the other ip.
b) use a firewall that shows active connections or another network port monitor. Watch ports 80, 5050. There's the spot.
I personally used that way to see some friends own ip. and playing with they: "Hei, i got you".
Note trillian for example, it's untraceable.. as is using all time the yahoo servers for communication.

Much simpler:

Get them to get on a website on which you have access to stats. You can setup a free website, add StatCounter.com stats, and VOILA - you have their IP . With that finding location is self explanatory.

Nop its not possible,
Its not a direct connection, all your data goes through Yahoo server, your messanger is communication only wid yahoo server,

But some time yahoo makes direct connection between communication parties, like super mod, or file transfer.

you can see all your live TCP connections by typing
> netstat on command prompt (windows)

 

It is not possbile to get IP through any messengers.

 

From the comments so far and reading somewhere else, I came to a conclusion that it would not be possible to get an IP via mesenger but I think the comment below from dluther31 is probably the best... I got a few websites so I can use one of them and use a link as a bait...! Save Boy!!
