many months ago a friend of mine clicked on one of the google adsense ads on my website that I told them about. He has a verizon dsl internet account. Next month I will be moving in with him and will probably use his verizon dsl for my own internet. In my google adsense account settings I will change my address information to his address. Will this raise a red flag because now I will have the IP address that he was at when he clicked on my adsense ad? So google might think that I clicked on my own ad? (which I never have)
Most likely he does not have a static IP address so his current IP address will be different from the one he had at the time he clicked on your ad. Because of this I do not see it as being a problem. If this was a legitimate click because it was something he was interested in at the time then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. And if it was only one click on one ad again I don't think you would have anything to worry about. But that's just my Peon opinion.
Maybe you could email google about it, if they know it before hand I really doubt they will ban your for it.
One or two clicks shouldnt matter anyway. And, you are not yet using that IP address when the clicks happened. But make sure that no more clicks from that IP after you move and login adsesne from there,
IP's are dynamically assigned and change every time you log in -- unless you have an "always-on" connection or static IP address. The IP address your friend had on that day has been reassigned many times over to different users since then. Don't worry so much.
You actually worry too much I think EVERY Adsense publisher clicked his ads AT LEAST once (Not that i encourage this). Just for the record, please note that if you click your ads 200 times in a 24 hour time span (for example), you will have 200 clicks recorded, but only 0,00 USD earned (or the earnings from the first click only). Just go do your thing, move to your friend, and keep working on your website.
like expertu said, I agree. you worry too much. There are around 3,000 people on the same IP address that I have (because of a university), and I'm sure that people click on my ads, I've never had a problem. I also agree, that every publisher has clicked on their own ads at least once -- while it's unethical and against the TOS, it's probably true (again, I'm not encouraging it either). Actually, expertu hit it right on the spot. You shouldn't have a problem at all -- I doubt Google will even second guess it. The correlation will never be matched up and they will know it wasn't you making the click. Brush it aside and continue working as is.
IP's change constantly, one click ain't gonna matter, unless it becomes a regular thing. That's a flag.
