Invoking Digital Point's Name in an Email

I apologize if I am not going about this the right way. I checked the FAQs and cannot seem to find a way to handle this.

Moments ago I received an email from a DP member announcing his marketing program. In the subject area of the message he announced that he was so and so @ Digital Point. Well, I thought I should open the message, but I soon learned that this person isn't associated with DP other than being a member.

Other than his marketing spam, I thought he was falsely representing himself as being from Digital Point. I won't copy and paste his message here, but what is DP's policy in this area?

    Thank you.

I doubt they have a policy. Sometimes I say "its mad4 from Digital Point" but it doesn't mean I work for Shawn.

Well, to me it is misleading. Why do you need to mention Digital Point in the subject area? Is it to get around my spam controls? The only reason I opened it was I thought DP was sending me news.

I think he should not say he is from Digital Point! Inseat he could have said he is a DP forum member!

In the subject area he suggested he was from DP while in the body of the message he mentioned he was from the DP forum. He then went on to say:

"The Digital Point Forums owners cannot accept any responsibility for the contents of the email."

Hmmm, so why go to the trouble of misleading people?

It sounds like he was trying to mislead people. Not much anybody can do about it though.

He caught your attention didn't he? I guess that was his point, to establish some platform of relevance, to get you to open the email

The worst part is that the promo is one of the poorest and least convincing messages I have read. As if I would be interested in going with someone who didn't take the time to find someone who could write his plug for him.

yea, It sux....Thats how the spammers get you, by enticing you with " interesting or misleading " subject lines,

This comes back to that good old saying " dont believe everything you read"

Its kinda like when I get those, " This pill will make all the girls love you more " emails.

However, you can use the option in the dp control panel to disallow anyone from directly emailing you :)

Thank you for that information, sundaybrew. My main beef is the hijacking of DP's name, something that may even be illegal if not unethical.

Actually, he didn't do that... A couple days ago, the "Email Member" here was switched to a web form, instead of showing the user's email. He did it through the form. It's the form that sets the subject and the disclaimer.

Makes it so people can email you, but not know your email address.

Shawn, I should use your own form against you ;)

wouldn't you be surprised to see an email from you (DigitalPoint), to you, but you don't actually take responsibility for the content

    now there's a mind job...

Thank you for you answer Shawn. Actually, the subject areas says:
Pump up your site ad income! - This is a message from [name deleted] at Digital Point Forums.

The email given shows [name deleted] @ Digital Poi.

I just think that this person is representing himself as working for DP by the way that he showed his signature and what he wrote in the subject area.

The only part he wrote (in the subject) was: "Pump up your site ad income!", the rest was appended by vBulletin. Try sending yourself an email (from your profile) to see what I mean.

But - I think the from digitalpoint part should be changed like for instance the sundaybrew @ Digital Point Forums

The right scammer could make an email look confusing ( see image below )

Just my opinion, Most seasoned guys wouldnt fall for it , but newbies could

No, it all showed up in my email including the DP part. If you want to see a copy of it, I can forward the same to you.
