    If you ask tidy! Besides, who are you my Mother? :D Actually it is to stop robots following multiple pages of the same topic. For your information G and other search engines do not like pages with more than 100 links on them. As The Orange Pages is run by paid editors they go out of their way to get as many of the best links on the web; this usually results in them getting very many hundreds if not thousands of links which could not possibly be put on one page. The reason for dissallow is thus to stop follow thru's but will NOT stop the first page of the category (The important one) from being indexed. Unlike your direcory which is run on either php or mysql databases ours is pure html.

    Hope this satisfies your confused and angry question? By the way, why post all the dissallows? these are all for The Orange Pages search system not for people to try and use to discredit us. We haven't commented on your directory in any derogatory fashion have we? :eek: It would be nice if you had p.m'd me instead! Never mind, The Orange Pages has nothing to hide and we answered your question. :rolleyes:

    It's dishonest. You ask people to submit but don't mention you disallow MOST of the links to be seen by search engines.

    Why post them? To make others aware.

    No! You obviously don't know a huge amount about RDF data and XML files? These are ALL available to the Robots so EVERY single page; and; if the Robots so desire; link that is in the directory gets indexed.

    These disallows were put in place to stop ADSENSE boxes picking up the pages as Duplicates, and Google might then ban you for not following guidelines.

    <meta name="ROBOTS.txt" content="NOINDEX,NOFOLLOW" User-agent: Mediapartners-Google* Disallow:>

    Rest assured The Orange Pages has been around for a long time and is very succesful. The directory is 100% accurate and the robot.txt counts for little or nothing and certainly won't stop the search engines from 'automatically' following the command. You don't seem to understand that just because there is a robot.txt file there that it 'Unreservedly' stops each page from getting indexed. Spiders have discretion over whether they want to follow these. Also to repeat myself, if the first page of the results say keyword 'Betting' is indexed then the rest will be equally as succesful. You stick to running your directory and we will with ours. How many links at a time do you display per page? over 100? How many links do you have per topic? When you reach the hundreds of thousands that we have you'll see the logic. Also remember that we do not CHARGE for this service and if people don't wish to be in our directory then that is their choice.

    I don't plan to get into arguments over this as it isn't worth it, but please don't ever accuse anyone of being dishonest before asking questions. If you want more details on this and how, why, where and the wherefore's of a directory run on html then ask in a polite manner without accusations.

    Take care and have a good Xmas.
