    Hi all,

Is it a good idea to invest some web sites in Turkey. Turkisk people likes social sites. If you search you find that Turkish community is in top 3 in Facebook.
Also %50 of a well known friendship web site (www.jonya.com) was sold to 15M$ last week.

After facebook, yonja.com lost some traffic.
It is a good idea to set up a very interesting friendship web site in Turkey.

    or i am wrong?

It should be yonja.com, not jonya.com.

Next problem is finding advertisers to make use of that market.
Your problem is going to be really momentizing it. Knowing Turkey and its economy, you'll see how much less income there is compared to the US for example.. so from what I've seen, you wont be making the same levels of money from its traffic.

You make a good website and you are on. There is growing internet usage in Turkey and not a catching growth rate in the amount of quality Turkish websites. Facebook got so popular because noone could make a local version of it. In Turkish internet market there's less money than US obviously, who has more than them in that terms anyway, but the same time, much much less competition.

    LeoSeo ,

You know me Im also a Turkish Resident , but in Turkish webmaster boards even the board crew screws google trying to steal money from them with old fashion technical ways "iframe etc"

People in turkey are not yet educated or have a martket of internet growth. The biz in turkey is rather low paying.

    "Very Low"

Rather then that talking for myself you cannot get what you invest in turkey. :) But the people are genius even better the fish guy :)

You're right about average wm cutie, but that's also an oppurtunity for the investor, those you mention are the "lil guys", and we are yet to see "big guys" which there are few. Rapid growing demand & low growing supply around here, something all investors are interested in.

    yonja.com was sold for 15M$ I thought?
So the investor should know what he has bought!
I don't think that he has just bought it because of
its great name, it must be the monetization of its traffic! Holley

Yep! But you guys are always focusing on the US - FOR EXAMPLE

Do not forget that there are people surfing the internet and not homeless because of the subprimes crisis in Europe, for example in the German speaking countries, in the French speaking countries, in the UK, in the NL, in Scandinavia ...

No, I'm not focusing on the US.
Speaking of European countries I have had multiple european targeted sites (German for example).
The difference is Turkey is not a European country. Poverty is rampant in Turkey and its economy is that of a third world country, and respectively they won't be keen on spending the same amounts advertising turkish products as US / European products.
I've seen a lot of Turkey, from Istanbul to Marmaris to Antalya, I spend a lot of time over there, and while it is very beautiful, its still behind todays civilization.
Which is why I personally don't think people would pay all that much for Turkish traffic.. :)

FYI, Turkey is an EU applicant and 17th largest economy of the world. Not exactly great but a bit better than the picture you drew. As for the internet market, Turkish is 1 of the first 15 languages Adsense/words supports, so G has seen some $$ worth investing into, surely others can as well. ;)

Don't be misguided by Adsense bids on monetizing a website targeting Turkish hits. Major local web sites in Turkey do not run Adsense or 3rd party PPC, but rather go directly with big brands like pepsi, toyota, nestle and run cpm ads. Room to grow, demand by huge population, young generation, one of the fastest developing economies, relatively less competition are all exciting facts to launch web ventures in Turkey.

Your comment of poverty being rampant is not reflecting the actual truth. I suggest you to take a look at growth rate, actual gdp, ex/import reports and buying power of the country if you are interested in knowing more about it. I wont comment if Turkey is a european country or not and i cant care less about EU but Turkey plays in UEFA right? Lol jk. It was the border power of EU against Russia block in cold war. At those times, Turkey was a good friend that EU/US cant afford to lose. Now its not a european country because of religious matters and they cant let Turkey in because of its huge young population. If they let it in, it would simply become one of the biggest players. The reason is not really the "todays civilization". The new members of EU in eastern ex-communist block countries are not more civilized and ready to get into EU, than Turkey. But they let them in. Anyways getting into too much of politics. I would second an idea to invest in Turkey. Lots of international funds buying large companies there cant be wrong :)

Yeah thats true but with one little diference, they buy because they (large companies) are going for cheap. What we`ve left for selling ? Our soul ?

    I just stole it :)
