Invalid Clicks - How to stop it?

    Hi,

I've heard a lot of horror stories on here about how people are getting banned from google for 'invalid clicks'

Is there anything we as website owners can do to prevent invalid clicks?

I know that Adlogger has the ability to stop people from clicking on your adsense ads multiple times, but is there any other way we can secure ourselves against this?

Your thoughts would be most welcome!

    Cheers ...
    Gerald.

Any script that blocks an ip/session from being served ads after a certain threshold of clicks would work. I can't think of any non-programatical methods of doing it other than some sort of "please do not keep clicking my ads" message". Google may even consider that as bringing undue attention to your ads!

I suppose if you are getting a lot of bad traffic from known areas you can ban ips, including entire geographic regions from seeing your site or ads.

There's no way to really stop them, only by installing adlogger

adlogger would be a good solution, but it slows down your site (it uses php + mysql) specially if you have high traffic.

Well you cant blocked them forever but you can use statcounter and Google Analytics to track IPs and send them to Google team. Use adlogger for tracking clicks.

You will not be banned for invalid clicks, unless it is caused by a breach in the TOS.

    Play it safe.

I'm trying to play it safe ... I want to try and protect myself as much as possible so Google wouldn't have an excuse to ban me .... not that they would as I haven't done anything wrong, but as you know ... it's better to be sale than sorry

    Cheers ...

Yeah, but that approach only prevents something from happening again once it has already happened.
I would rather use an automated tool to detect it while it is happening and spot it there and then - Like AdLogger.

Yeah I remember ages ago when I first started out with adsense (last year sometime), I got a warning message from Google about invalid clicks. I replied to them pleading my innocence .... I haven't heard from them since..... But now when I am beginning to make some serious money with adsense, I don't want anything to happen to my account

I have a channel that has 2 clicks but $0.00 today. I assume they're invalid clicks. Never experienced this before. I don't like it. I average $0.10 a click so every click counts. Haven't received any warning from Google.

What's the official definition of "invalid click" anyway?

    Let google figure it out.

    Invalid clicks could be:

    * Clicks generated by you.
    * Clicks generated by your users (one or two users OK, if there appears a pattern - not OK, like some forum owners asking their users to click on the ads).
    * Clicks generated by regular users, but traffic is generated from wrong place (mailing lists, traffic exchange, etc..)

There are other ways that invalid clicks can be generated, I don't have time to re-read the TOS now.

    Peace,

...is the Google thinking? A visitor to your site can only click on one ad,
anymore than that you will be banned! Is the publisher now supposed to
curtail his/her site visitors behavior? Perhaps post a tag that reads
"ONLY CLICK ON ONE AD PLEASE" yeah, try that on a games/myspace related site....../ here is a kid that just decided to click on
whatever adsense ads showed up on the NEXT site, just
clicking away, so to speak. His internet connection seems
to die at the end of the tape, but he gets a few clicks in. VIDEO OF KID
Hes got no intent on buying, no intent on reading the pages content,
just keeps on clicking. and so according to Google TOS those
could be considered Invalid Clicks and can get you banned!!
