This house is going to be a little bigger and a lot more complex (central server room, fiber to every room, etc.) than the stuff they do.
Sounds like it's going to be really lovely Shawn. Wonder how long it'll be until you feature on MTV's Cribs.
You are the Bruce Willis of the internet. That must count for something. Only a select few. There will be rigorous tests and interviews that need to be passed before entering DigitalPoint Palace.
Sounds like it'll be pretty sweet. I know what it was tough just waiting the few months for them to finish my house... 12-18 months? It's a good thing you've got a lot to keep you busy.
Standby generator? Dual-WAN router? Redundant broadband providers? I put these things in this year because of last year's terrible hurricane season.
Not sure if it's going to be that much yet. Depends if I end up moving my live servers "in-house" (literally) or not. Although I did find a place where you can get a full T3 (45Mbit) for $2,000/month (includes local loop), which is pretty tempting.
Any idea when FIOS will come to town? When it does, you can get 30 Mbit for $200/month or 15 Mbit for $50/month. The upload speeds arent as fast - they're adequate though - up to 5 Mbit. I'm currently on business RoadRunner cable + DSL via Dual-WAN, but the fiberoptic cable is already in the ground for FIOS so my DSL will get a major upgrade within a couple of months. The RoadRunner people have told me that they will increase bandwidth to remain competitive. My generator will run the whole house for a week to 10 days on one tank of LP (1,000 gallons). A lot of people I know were without power for one to two weeks last summer. Can't have that!
Probably never where I'm at... San Diego isn't really a "Verizon zone" (primarily SBC here). But we should be getting 25Mbit DSL within 12 months with Project Lightspeed (San Diego is one of the first places it's being rolled out).
I was checking out that link (the Hyatt Regency in Kauai). I have stayed in that same hotel twice. It is pretty sweet. However, it was a bit overcrowded. I also very much liked the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the big island. More spread out and a bit more romantic IMO
Same difference then. The upload speeds won't match your T3 though. Of course, you could move your base of operations to Hong Kong - they have Gbit broadband there already. Not too many California girls there though...
You've obviously never visited Hong Kong or Asia for matter... more than enough asian girls to make up for the lack of "California" girls. And even if asians are your cup of tea, there are a fair number of attractive non-asian residents, too
By all accounts, Hong Kong is a happening place, lacking for nothing. The California girls remark was a song reference - something common to many DigitalPoint threads... Well east coast girls are hip I really dig those styles they wear And the southern girls with the way they talk They knock me out when I’m down there The mid-west farmer’s daughters really make you feel alright And the northern girls with the way they kiss They keep their boyfriends warm at night I wish they all could be california I wish they all could be california I wish they all could be california girls The west coast has the sunshine And the girls all get so tanned I dig a french bikini on hawaii island Dolls by a palm tree in the sand I been all around this great big world And I seen all kinds of girls Yeah, but I couldn’t wait to get back in the states Back to the cutest girls in the world I wish they all could be california I wish they all could be california I wish they all could be california girls I wish they all could be california (girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the) I wish they all could be california (girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the) I wish they all could be california (girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the) I wish they all could be california (girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the)
My Schtick? Never heard of 'em. No, that's the Beach Boys. Some say they have girlie voices too... At least you didn't guess REO again.
