Thanks for the Q/A dude , appreciated, I guess I used all my credits but one last one. Was it all about the money (honestly) at least at the start or the product, or did it change, this forum is obviously heavily focused on the money for a lot of people but I guess it was never that for you (outwith the forum) but you now benefit from it from your company and seeing as thats the case you can now quite easily say it's about innovation/expression/problem solving and totally not about the $ but if you did what you did and earned a fraction of your income would you be happy/fulfilled? Only the rich say money does not bring happiness/hummers, what do you say?
Nice answers, Shawn. Your weakness is a harem of women with English accents that you could have all to yourself.
In may case it's actually true. My ultimate goal when I started my company was to make enough to pay my apartment rent and not have to go somewhere to work. If I had to pick between spending my time doing something interesting and doing something that made money, I would take the interesting stuff any day. BTW, this forum doesn't make me any money... it was setup as a support system for our products/tools. I'm happy, but it's not because of money, so... {shrug} I dunno if that would be my weakness, but I'm pretty sure I've had that dream a few times. hah
I know how the forum started and its a credit to you/your products/your open views that the forum has grown to what it is today seeing as its not heavily censored etc etc, cool, a good interview and an inspiration to many folks here who cut there own living.##Rock on as Anthonycea would say
Hmmmm...what about starting up a directory to outdo DMOZ? You've already got a boatload of members who I'm sure would happoly be editors.
Making sushi is a blast if you've never made it before. Doing it on a date would be interesting...considering your hands will be covered in sticky rice...but you have to watch out for the fishy smell.
Rofl, you had me at hello It's funny, this is a powerful forum, and amazing to see how often you see posts regardings creating a new Pagerank Dmoz Search Engine Directory I suppose this would be one place I could see it being born and actually grown throughout the net and being done better than before, however Shawn as a general rule prefers to be creative rather than take someone else's think and make it better, there's not as much fun in that.
Noppid you just cost me £0.79 on Itunes, thanks, it's been a while. Edit: Cool to hear you appreciate the Gorillaz, Damon is a cool guy, met him a few times albeit during a period........ How did toots put it? "in common"
Q. Do you feel the rising audience pressure who want to pro-actively partake in something with you due to your large readership as it were? Does this appeal to your sense of adventure or make you cringe that all people want is for you to take on google or something in an area already covered or do you have plans/ideas to involve the masses and create something new involving the community that has not already been done..without being specific? Seeing as with an audience this big a sense of adventure could snowball into a worldwide phenomenon with the right idea and backing or do you wish the DP forum just to remain a support vessel for your free/paid products.
Haven't really thought about it much... At this very second, I don't have any plans for anything specific, because I typically implement something within 36 hours of thinking of it (keyword tracker, ad network, etc.). But I'm sure there will be something new for the masses at some point. And no, I don't want to take on Google... Not (necessarily) because I don't think I could, but because I prefer doing NEW stuff. Like you said... with the right idea, anything is possible.
