Directory-Owners is proud to announce the first ever interview from the owner of PhpLynx Directory script. Published 5/19/2007 The directory community either loves him, hates him, or has never heard of him. Being the newest directory script to enter the market and with the recent release of the full version of phpLynx, we felt this was a good time for the community to know more about the person behind phpLynx. Full interview can be found HERE. For those that have never visited Directory-Owners, we also have many interviews from some of the directory communities finest folks HERE. Excerpt from the interview below.... Q. Are you able to give us a short insight into your background? I'm a 40 something who's been in business both on and offline for the past 25 years, Having initially trained as a Psychologist I cut my teeth on the internet in the mid 80's getting into the directory business in 2000. I run one of the oldest directories on the web although its currently not populated due to the fact I'm now turning to my own script, it will be back to its former glory soon. Q. What do you think sets your web directory script out from all the others? Simplicity, adapatability and affordability. The phpLynx script works around other scripts shortcomings, it has high end features at a low end cost. We devised the script to adapt to cater for a wide audience of users from the classic 'one line link and description display' to one that can offer a complete company detail list and more, simular to Yell.com's model. With features like built in spellchecking, Location Manager and Category intergration, to the state of the art anti-bot features to eliminate spam, we've raised the bar with the phpLynx script. We added some of the 'gimmick components' like 'rate a site' and such but made sure that no feature is ever compulsory, you can switch on or off most features via admin and or via the template files with little or no knowledge of coding. Thanks Kevin for your interview and we wish you the best of luck with Lynx. tom
Excellent interview wildweb, you learned lots by reading this interview, Thanks for providing the interview mate, and thank you for your interview Kevin
Very interesting, the directory world seems to be progressing well and i see there is some good consideration for now and the future, this is all great. Thanks for an interesting read.
Thanks wwws. We appreciate that! and thank you @pipes, watchout. We hope that this interview addresses some of the lingering questions/concerns that are out there regarding phpLynx. tom
kudos for the interview wildweb, you asked what most of us think and fair play to him he never ducked anything.
Thanks Pheonix for replying, much appreciated. I wasn't sure and didn't have the time today (some of us work a real job ) to follow-up with an answer. tom
Well Created: 26-mar-2000 is the date for cantufind , so how can it be "oldest directories on the web" ?? Dmoz happens to be older, and i am sure so is yahoo's , so which directory does he owns thats actually the oldest?
paidhosting - I don't think he said "the oldest directory on the web" as you quoted. He stated "I run one of the oldest directories on the web..." with the key wording "one of". I haven't taken the time as you did to look up the DN or date of origin on the site...however if the date you have posted is correct....then it would certainly be one of the older ones around. Most directories here are less than just a few years old at the oldest. David Duval even made a post a few days back in one of the threads that he started his first directory around that same time too...maybe even a few years before running some Korean script which is no longer around. tom
Good job wildweb!! This is definitely the script to watch out for! Kevin and his crew are very forward thinking individuals and once they have a few "high end" sites running their script - i'm sure there will be more than a few heads turning! Once again - great interview Tom!
It was whacked at DMOZ for using redirect. Listed in Family Friendly Directory as Orange Pages but redirects to Cantufind.
Yeah I seen that to but couldn't work it out as the orange pages is a phpld run script and the cantufind site isn't, done a search and Kev is the owner of both names so maybe he had some ideas for the names, no biggy to me although dmoz uses redirects don't they? Bit like the pot calling the kettle black! Never mind ours is to wonder not reason, especially with dmoz.
Thank you LaCabra! Btw...I love the Linksnitch.com site!! You got a good thing there and with all the recent threads in here about folks getting ripped off on link purchases....they should try out LinkSnitch. tom
