Interpreting AWstats statistics

A couple of questions and a problem ...

    1) re RSS (.xml) files accessed as shown in 'File Types' and 'Pages-URL'
How many hits represent RSS Readers compared with pings, etc. from Technorati and others?

    2) Robot visits
Googlebot and Yahoo Slurp each visited my site over 2800 times during October - this is just plain stupid.
    - Why ?
    - How can I get this cut back ?

    3) In the referral statistics I'm getting puzzling information in the statistics, e.g. the referral URL below is one entry (for Wordpress blog page). Can anyone explain ?

    http://www.megaxgame.com/MXG/component/option,com_akocomment/task,report/id,186/cid,4020/It

(Note: the word wrap added by me, for the post.)

Any ideas what is going on here ?

    Thanks,

    1) You will need a more advanced feedtrack like feedburner for tracking your rss better.

    2) It is normal - these searche engine bots are checking your pages for changes. Normally it's good to have them revisit your site often and you should not worry. You can limit their behaviour, but it is only recommended if you can't support the traffic.

    3) It looks like log spam. You should suppliment your tracking with another web stats software which does not rely on logs. (check my sig for example, or PM me for more information)

I seriously wonder at the reliability of the statistics of AWstats. (other than static HTML pages)

    Consider this:

The blog statistics provided by the Wordpress statistics plugin and those from 'ShareThis' approximately agree.

However, the statistics provided by AWstats are about 15-times greater !

    Very flattering, but hardly reliable.

Indeed, you will not be able to reliably align a default awstats report with other javascript based trackers. In order to filter the garbage, it will require some advanced rules and filtering for your web log tool.
