I'm not posing the question below for the purpose of finding any get-rich-quick schemes, but rather as a way of seeing how many varied answers we can come up with from so many webmasters with differing goals and agendas.

Here is the question I'm posing:
"What is the best way to successfully make money utilizing the internet?"

Think about all the tools available, and consider how many of them you are currently using.

Blogging and Forums (Contextual ad banners like Adsense, YPN, Chitika)
    Search Marketing (MSN, Yahoo, Google)
Affiliate Programs (Commission Junction, Azoogle, Amazon etc)
    Selling Products (eCommerce)
    Ebay (Various programs)

    Well?
Is it a combination of everything listed above and more...or just doing one or two and doing it better than everyone else?
Please feel free to chime in with your own ideas on what makes a successful internet marketing professional.

Personally what I do mostly is mostly affiliate programs. I think it depends on the person whether he or she chooses a few things and focuses on those, or is a jack of all trades on the internet.

...and how do you find the most success with those affiliate programs?
Banners on a website, email campaigns...or maybe search marketing campaigns to their landing pages?

    Thanks for the reply.

I'm no expert so take what I have to say with a grain of salt, but I suppose I could say e-mail campaigns since that is where all of my sales and sign ups have come from.

My first sale came from someone who signed up for a free e-book on a splash page I was promoting in a traffic exchange, just to give you an idea of what I've done.

I haven't found too much success with banners on a website, though it's probably cause my traffic flow on my site just sucks.

As for search marketing, I'm guessing you mean SEO...well...haha, my site and SEO...let's not talk about that.

No, I'm not speaking of SEO.
What I mean is bidding on keywords and purchasing them through Adwords and the like.
Pointing those to various affiliate landing pages can be lucrative for some.

Which internet marketing method you employ depends on what you're good at and which market you're in. Different market has different consumption pattern, profit margin, buying frequency... and all these results in different efficiencies with different internet marketing methods.

I would not recommend the eBay and eCommerce stuff unless you love getting involved actively. The ohter ones are good though because they are passive sources of income....if you go on vacation for a week, ull still be generating money (maybe not as much if you don' update your blog, but you still do) Try that with ecommerce or ebay and ull have a bunch of mad customers :D

This depends person to person. I like to sell eCommerce stuff much more than doing affiliate, adsense or doing services.

If you can create or have products to sell then go for it. You can also take franchise from your near store and sell them as yours, you'll get more than affiliates for those products.

    Anyway, My priority :
    (1) E commerce Stuff
    (2) Affiliate
    (3) Services
    (4) Selling space from your site
    (5) Adsense etc

    Good Luck

I am very new at this, and I am limited to Adsense for the time being, at least until I learn more about the whole thing.

In my case the best way was to design skins for forums and sites. I also make some revenue with adsense, but not as much as I earn from design. I am far from hitting it big online, but I do enjoy my sites :D

I guess you have to utilize your social network to boost your sales if you join affiliate programs. I made my first sale just by personalizing my ad promotion.

You have to target your prospects and prioritize those you know personally or through online chats.

    Just a suggestion.

As a newbie, I have been attending a few internet seminars and reading about internet business stuff ( ebooks, books ) and seeking advice from experienced people. Generally, their key advice is ( start small, think big ), never stop learning and don't expect miracles :)

Btw, I am doing blogging and ebay for starters. Been blogging for the past two years, but only seriously doing internet biz since early this year.

I think there's one problem in this way of thinking... it might focus bit too much on the technology. Although technology is important, it's still not the "key" to success. Although I have tried different methods (like the ones you mention above - excluding eBay) that's still only a technology - and really doesn't predict success. If you have a website that gets quality traffic it cannot be said that best way would be "affiliates". There are so many alternative ways to generate money (link sales, ads, selling site, direct ads, products, consultation, services) that it's impossible to tell which one is the best way.

I think the *best* way is to fill some need. If people want to read and hear about pink hats then the ones that will be successful are those who can either sell or tell about pink hats. As long as the people's need (their need to hear/buy pink hats) is filled, there will be success: whether to use affiliates (sell other people's pink hats) or sell guides ("your guide to pink hats") or links ("more information about pink hats in these sites") is a matter of testing. You can test showing "pink hat ads" and compare the results to using only "pink hat affiliates". The key is still filling the void: if you start recommending "blue cat stuff" to those who want to hear about "pink hats", you simply won't be successful no matter how hard you try to use forums/affiliates/product selling/etc it won't work if there's no right persons to listen to you.

    First people, then technology.

A bit of everything, if possible. This way, you reduce risk and diversify your income streams. Its hard because you need to put alot of time and effort.

Hey guys this is a great thread, very interesting.

Apologies if this appears more than once, I'm having some connection issues.

Personally, much of my income comes from affiliate schemes promoted in lots of different ways, from myspace to viral ebooks on ebay. I always like to branch out and try new ideas, which has lead to me being a bit of a jack of all trades. I would like to spend time perfecting one form of marketing at some point though, I like the idea of being great at one form of marketing and slowly growing skills in other areas. I think if you do it that way you always have your main skill to rely on.

    My two cents
