With one blow, Mother Nature triggered the largest telecommunications outage in years, cutting off or slowing telephone and Internet traffic in Asia from Beijing to Bangkok. A powerful earthquake off the southern tip of Taiwan late Tuesday damaged up to a dozen fiber-optic cables that cross the ocean floor south of Taiwan. They usually carry traffic between China, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, the U.S. and the island itself. http://edition.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/asiapcf/12/27/taiwan.quake.ap/index.html I managed to get onto DP after hours of trying, but have not managed to access an email account for over 24 hours now Comments welcome:-
Did that effect UK too I am using VPN network of T-Mobile here in Pakistan and its 100% fine and i have been online for like all night and all day now
Yes, 98% Mainland China and Taiwan can not visit any US & Europe site for more than 24 hrs. A lot damages....
Here in India also people are facing the same problem because of earthquake. few ISPs are working fine but few big ISPs are having this problem.
Don't know about UK as I am based in Asia, but I just opened 1 my email boxes after 36 hours outage So it is still an ongoing problem
I can't access to my sites hosted by Goddady (in US) for last 2 days. But there is no problem to get into DP (with small delay). So I really want to know where is DP host located.
What Arent you that Britishguy Peter Right? I thought you were from North Wales UK My US based VPN is working like a charm
i dont know how much it has effected ppl. arround the world....however my internet was definitely down for a day....and its very slow since.
Sure no problem sometimes in HK, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, China etc we cover all of Asia we have many places we do business in, location depends on the marketing requirements as we use media, business tie-ins with key accounts, as well as the Internet.
I have problem accessing DP last night. Everything is slow because of our ISP DNS was hit with massive DNS request. Now they are routing all the traffic to another line. Things going to be fix back to normal within 3 weeks time accordingly to report
Seems to be more widespread than at first indicated Hope normal service will be resumed asap Also note sometimes normal service is not up to much in some locations in Asia
I finally have internet back in China!! The internet was actually just incredibly slow.. so slow that i couldn't load more then one page of dp before disconnecting me. Now I seem to have internet back to normal. Its strange since reports in the newspaper said up to two weeks to fix it.
