I am working on the beginning stages of a business plan and need to find out the earning potential of an idea. I'd rather not get into specifics, but I'll give as much detail as possible. I'd appreciate it if someone would take a few minutes and help me with some questions and help me understand my revenue potential. Most, if not all, of the revenue for my business idea will be ad revenue. Assuming that I am able to attract people to my website for extended periods of time and keep them signed in and active (playing a real-time game), I need to develop a rough estimate of the revenue potential from selling ad space. Obviously I'm not at a point where I can give more than an educated guess as to how many people will be at my website at any given time or how long each player will stay. Here are some assumptions upon which you can base a rough estimate of earning potential: 1) I can attract 2,000 people to my website every two hours. The average visitor spends 45 minutes at my website. So, on an average day, 24,000 people visit my site and stay for 45 minutes. 2) There is space around the game interface for advertising space (assume that half of the screen (on average) is used for interface and half is unused. There are also one or two places for discreet advertising space (like a logo) inside of the game interface. It is important that, to people playing the game and visiting the site, the ads are an afterthought and not too distracting. It can't be one of those sites where ads are 75% of the screen and totally distracting. There will be infrequents breaks in the game during which a short ad could be played/displayed. 3) The game will attract people from more than one target market. The prizes offered for winning tournaments/games will help me divide players according to target markets. 4) The game is ongoing and will not likely be forgotten. I believe that a large number of the players will be constant repeat visitors. The prizes and cash offered for winners of contests will ensure that many visitors return. I realize that I'm not giving enough detail to make a solid guess, but I'd like to know what one might expect to earn by driving the aforementioned number of people to a website and keeping them there for a period of time. I don't expect many clicks on banners, as the website is a destination site, but it would be a perfect place for banner advertising movies, other games, and even streaming commercials (pretty much anything that doesn't require a click for the ad to be effective). Along with guesses as to revenue, I'd appreciate any other advice or ideas. I'm sorry I haven't given more detail, but any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance, WTL
